And a LOT of fins (i don't want to know how much fins i have...), including some sets of Halcyon's that i really love (12 fins in total from Halcyon). Some people don't realize how important are the fins, a good fin can turn a lot of surfboards on and not using the right fin set up can turn the best board into a dog. I know i'm forgetting something, but that's what comes to my head now. Guys, you're really lucky living there in USA having access to any surf equipement you want to try, here in Galicia (Europe) is not that easy. Coque. |

From the quiver i posted up 8 boards come from USA, all of them came here thanks to diferent friends, some with someone on a plane, some others on a Clark Foam container, etc. The last ones (Mandala quad, Stu Kenson Mutant Moon and Good karma) came to Spain through a shipping company with the enormous help of a GREAT friend. He took care of the boards, he made an amazing job packing them, and he found a cheap and fast shipping method for me. 1000x THANKS! Also the colaboration of the shapers was really important. Both Stu Kenson and Manny are great people (and amazing shapers), and it's a pleasure to deal with them. Things are always smooth with them. THANKS! Anyway, bringing those boards from USA means money, but, in my oppion, they are worth it. The Tom Curren board, the Cordell and others where bougth in the contests i judge to the pros, they always make a good price and the boards use to be well shaped but with a light glass job. The only problem is that i'm 5'11 and 195 lbs, so there aren't many pros of this size on the WQS, Shane Bevan and Pancho Sullivan are some of the last ones. Maybe i'll try to buy a board from Luke Egan or Mick Cambell in september, just to know what the pros of my size are riding. If i could a Stretch quad and a Bonzer would be the next boards to bring from USA, but at the moment i think i have to wait or my girl will kill me. Maybe for the next summer. Coque. |

Foamdust, i only had a couple of sessions with the Mutant and the Good Karma is still waiting for the right conditions. The Mutant really flows and links turns easily, it's a pleasure to ride, never goes super fast (under my feet) but never slows down. I really enjoyed it in a long right hander point break. On the other hand, if you want to make "high performance" turns of the top, you'll be surprised how fast this board changes directions... love it. On monday i'll write Stu a full feedback (i spect to get good waves this weekend), so i'll post here my impressions. By the way, the board came with a TK flex fin and i want to try it with some of my Halcyon's. What i can tell you is that Stu is not a "good shaper", he's a "GREAT SHAPER" no doubt, and the glass job on his boards is great also. More thougts on monday. Have a nice weekend! Coque. |

denis85. what do you think of the epoxy hogfish? i owned one for a couple weeks and dumped it.... what are the redeeming qualities? what are your dims/conditions for use? thanks much. jp |
Hi JP! First of all, let me tell you that I didn't really choose this board... One day, a friend of mine bought the hogfish and, soon, he started to complain about it's buoyancy and the fact that he was too skinny for it. Being heavier, I've tried the board, surfed with it for a week or so before my friend found a really nice second hand poly fish. He needed cash and asked for a really low price...So, considering that summer was here I bought the hogfish. I like it in small beach break waves as it's light and really responsive. But you need to be a backfoot surfer and weigh at least 180 pounds to turn it properly as it floats like a boat... It handles medium sized pointbreaks, also... But a good epoxy custom surfboard would be a better choice, for sure. I don't think I would buy a brand new surftech off the racks

Mo_Fo- You funny guy. I'm not saying I have style, just that because a certain board doesn't have three fins, or pulled in tail, or this or that, it doesn't mean you can't SURF it! OF course you can get barrelled on a longboard, and of course you can hit the lip on a single fin....At the same time, how many jacka$$es do you see on "modern shortboards" that suck balls and just wiggle away, or look like they're trying to get dingleberries out of their a$$es going down the line? I realized that I don't have too many pictures of my boards. These are my two go-to boards. First one is a 6'1 hybrid that I ride in the smaller mushy stuff. This thing glides almost as good as my fish, but turns more like a standard thruster: ![]() The next is of my baby. She's a custom 6'4" and loves rippable waves. If I am riding this I am happy because the waves are good: ![]() Others include a fish from Roger Rice (Santa Barbara shaper). 9'6" Slick Noserider 6'6" Round tail Custom South Coast And a 6'9" gun on the way from Larry Ricci at South Coast. Next board will either be to replace my 6'4" or maybe try a quad. Not sure I want to do that since I think riding fishes kind of hinders my ability to ride thrusters. |

I dunno, I just like how every board is different and most seem to work, makes it fun for me, the ones i didn't post are cool too, weird things like the 6'0 transition egg with the 12 inch fin that almost definitely was made out of a longboard and I found for $35...cool stuff

NICE boards DUB! ![]() Ryan stopped by at 8 am this mourning before I headed to class with his son Ethan. (cute kid ) Seemed like a really cool dude. Talked about boards and surfing in general for close to an hour. He said you have quite a quiver and plenty of classic logs in mint condition. So I was planning on hasslin you to post em up You have some very nice fish really...thats some hard decisions day to day I need to head North one day. Need to buy a couple wetsuits first ![]() Ryans a cool guy though. Hope he keeps in touch. thanks for posting pics guys! ![]() DK |

The Minami is a beauty, it's the only one I've ever had, but I see guys surfing really well on his shortboards. It's probably the best Sunset board I have ever ridden. The guy I got it from said it works unreal at big Pipe but I'm too scared. I saw Charlie Walker ripping Sunset on a nice looking Minami too. I asked to trade for a couple waves and he was into it but then we got caught inside and that was that. |

Basswave, surfing on that big Skip Frye Eagle is pretty fun. There is soooo much glide going on it's unbelievable. It goes a lot faster than you think you are going. I had it out on a head high day once, fell and dislocated my shoulder from just hitting the water. Very regal feeling, though, gliding around on it. Must be a little like what the ancient Hawaiians felt on their big boards. Take care. Rick |

most of my boards I only really remember the length and not the other dimensions. so here it goes: top to bottom: 9'1" "wide & thick" 7' & about 3" thick 7'6" (haven't ridden it in years!) 6'6" the three non-longboards again at a differnt angle another 6'6" my "old" boards: left to right: 7', 6'9" and 6'5" (super rocker board that I can barely ride anymore) my current shortboards: 6'4" x 20" x 2 5/8" 6' x 21 1/4" x 2 3/4" have one more un-pictured board that's 7' and stored out in Hawaii. |

Some new additions. No pics but I'll get some soon. A 5'11" DHD quad I found on craigslist. Soon to get: 7'8" MC 5 fin Bonzer gun. Another 6'2' 5 fin MC Bonzer swallow to replace the one ShShSh got from me. 6'6" Zamora Hull single fin. 6'2" Weirdo MC 6 fin sorta Bonzer thing. That 5'6" Ambrose parabolic quad from AB3. A batch of ...lost quad sharks and rnf's. Some guy named Chuey is getting me a Firewire quad to try out. And my long lost favorite single fin of all time, a Hank Warner Rabbit Bartholomew G&S. When all is said and done, 37 boards in the garage. My kids ride a bunch of them, and my brothers seem to borrow them whenever I am not home, so it works out. |

Tell me your avatar doesn't say "Pepis"?! By the way, thanks for making my board habit look benign! Now take back those comments, Brownfish!!Pgr: I've only ridden the Bonzer 5 twice now, but last session at the J was killer. It's heavier than my other boards by a long shot, but still really maneuverable and swift! Got some good backside bowls on it, enjoyed the speed, but am unsure about the fin sizes so far. It's definitely the first five fin I've had that I'm enjoying the board, probably because it's made so similar to my regular boards (as you can see). sbd: There are one or two other folks with dibs on some of these, but.... |

My quiver is always in a state of flux. I only keep 5 boards at a time and when I order one I put one up for sale. My wonderful wife just can't understand why I need more than 2 boards ![]() So I keep them in board bags and she never knows when I pick up a new board. If I sell one before the one I ordered is ready, I just tell her one is in for a ding repair ![]() This is the quiver my wife see's (note: the top bag is a 3 board coffin to expand the quiver in the future) ![]() ![]() This is what I see I didn't feel like dragging the boards out to take a proper group photo so I just photchopped a group pic. You will notice the Thruster is not in the pic (sold) I'm getting ready to place an order for a new board (probably a Bonzer) with Larry Mayo. Classic post. What she doesn't know won't hurt her, right? My wife thinks I'm a loser for having so many boards so I've been showing her this thread hoping that she will realize I'm not the only one. Using board bags to conceal your boards is classic. I'll get my quiver posted on here as soon as I get around to the group photo.

Not trying to deny anyone the quiv shot. I just have never been able to make a photo work. I think that qualifies me for retard status. Those aren't all my boards. The pic is from my house in sc where my two other roomates who also surf used to live with me. When scotty put that fish up in the classifieds, i wanted it real bad but i was leaving for new york for the summer in a couple days. So i just called him up and told him i was gonna send him a cashiers check and pick it up a couple months later. Which i did from the surfermag headquarters which was real cool. Not to mention bassy was nice enough to direct me to trestels to try the board out. Like i said, those aren't all my boards. My current quiver consits of the following 5'9 DVS fish (amazing, but it has a hole in it right now) 5'10 christenson 6'1 lost sdIII with parabolic stringers 6'2 stretch 6'4 xanadu 6'5 simon anderson 6'9 haut quad fin 7'10 HLI gun 9'0 johnny rice lp, first surfboard 9'6 bob miller team ryder also in the quiv but not pictured 6'0 john mel twin fin 6'1 single fin #2 by yours truly 6'3 sd2, super beat up and missing part of the tail 10 haut which i gave to my dad to use 8'2 steve collete single fin pintail from the 70's with a glassed on wood fin, pretty classic. Ridden it a couple times. The cool thing is that i get access to my friends boards cause i can surf and they can't my buddy has a cool lost aviso which is fun but kinda weird he also has an old school hobie from the early 60's we presume. Its a lot of fun but its a straigt log. and yeah, i'm still in school so i've got a pretty good/workable collection/quiver |

I also convinced my buddy to pick up that used mc bonzer for this trip to bali. He doesn't know that i'm gonna jack it from him and get some insane barrels on it on this upcoming boat trip. The one that truth was posting about in the travel forum.

Swift, Neil Purchase Snr, 5' 10", diamondtail widowmaker (Glass love). (He's stopped shaping now so no more of these). Dick Van Straalen, 6', epoxy/carbon fibre, flex keel fin twin, rocket fish with tiny centre trailer fin. Ala Rasta in the My Space interview with AC. Brilliant on big, sucky powerful low tide beachbreak tubes. Pipedreams, Murray Burton, 6' 2" Trippun fish, moon tail, flex keel twin with acid resin swirl. He only did a few of these and now does quads. Great for racing really fast point waves. I am happily ignorant of how to post photos but do have shots of them. Looks like the Swift which I've ridden once will be going to a new home in W.A. as it's on Ebay with 7hrs to go. -------------------------------------------------- |

Hey Shark, how's that RNF go for you at 170? I run about 5'9", 165-170(ish), and I was wondering whether to go for a "traditional" keel-fin fish in 5'4 or 5'6. My daily driver is a 5'6"x21 1/4"x2 9/16" quad dialer with a wide tail, but I'm thinking about getting a new one at 5'8 and pulling in the tail a little to extend the wave size range. |
the 5'4"goes well for me, my daily driver during summer for just about anything, i find it carves real well. It was shaped for a pro who weighs quite a bit less than I do but it works really well for me. Length and width are perfect, I catch waves with it better than my poly 6'0"because of the low entry and wide nose. Also, you don't bog as often because of the wide nose when you put your weight forward. Definitely do as the website says and take off 6-8" The only thing I'd do different next time is make it 2 3/8" thick instead of 2 3/16" next time. BTW tail is only 14.25" so it still carves well and fins are set sort of far backk |

Quote: I've only surfed the Spacecake about 3-4 times since I picked it up from Varno, so I don't feel like I can give it too much of a comprehensive review yet. The more recent times I surfed it were good-sized dredging days at a local beachbreak and I will just say this...best single I've ridden, by far. I think it will be a serious barrel-hunter and it felt great from the first wave. I believe that is the standard fin that comes with the board (9"). Feels good...holds well, but can still whip around w/ no problem. I think you'll be stoked on your board!

yes, it does seem like a board that will handle some serious surf if given the opportunity... good ol' singles... and Jake tells me even in small surf it does wonders, cannot wait for the flow of a good single fin

Just found and repurchased a 5'11" single fin winger round pin Lightning Bolt that me and Rory Russel made together in Hawaii. My friend from high school had it in his garage. I can't wait to ride it again. I haven't even seen it or thought about it in over 25 years. It's in good shape, too. It was inspired by the little single fins that Bradshaw was making for Michael Ho around that time. All it needs is a fin and new wax. |

sorry, no lawn shots, but i finally got around to shooting 2/3 of my quiver...pales in comparison to some of you guys (sheesh!), but these get the job done. 1. 2004 custom merrick sg 7'0" x 18 3/4" x 2 1/2" with thinned out rails for DOH+++ beachbreak barrels...great in heaving nw hammerland sand dredging barrels...gets used about 2-4 times a year, unbelievable control in hollow heavers. 2. 2007 custom merrick k-step up 6'8" x 19" x 2 1/2" with thinned out rails for DOH+ beachbreaks and macking pointbreaks...picked it up in '07, used thrice this winter, and the thing just goes off. 3. 2007 custom merrick five deep single concave w/ extreme rocker 6'4" x 18 7/8" x 2 3/8" (two of these, identical)...unreal in good waves from HH to DOH, less than ideal if the waves don't allow you to keep it laid over on rail constantly. 4. 2008 custom merrick flyer f 6'1" x 19" x 2 7/16" moderate single concave bump wing squash...picked it up two days ago, got it in some consistent and rippable, if somewhat disorganized, windswell, and the thing is a big improvement over my previous flyers...much faster and looser with the single concave over the double to single, and the bump wing does add pivot in the pocket, for sure...very, very hyped on this board's flat out planing speed. the thing just goes so fast, and so responsive, it took me by surprise compared to how my five surfs. 5. 1998 mccrystal swallow tail 6'2" x 19 1/4" x 2 1/2" (not pictured, in avatar)...super flat, no rocker from the midpoint back...actually handles up to DOH, though, very knifey rails, and super deep single/double concave set-up...the only board i've ever really held on to for any period of time, and still surf occasionally...extremely fast. 5'8"x 20x 2 5/8s" Griffin 5 fin fish. I ride this thing in everything. This is the most versatile user friendly surfboard I've ever used. 6'2"x 18 1/2x 2 1/4 Rusty Roundpin thruster shaped by Bill J. This thing just wont die. It's 4 years old and on its last legs, though I have gotten too many good waves to get rid of it and it still works with stiff offshores. Use it around DOH, smaller if the waves pack some punch. 6'6"x 18 1/2x 2 1/2 Cordell Roundpin thruster. Use this thing on big winter days a couple times a year in So Cal. Seems to work better in bigger wallier waves as opposed to big tubes, though it still works in those. I usually wont bring this thing out until its bigger than double overhead. From 2005 with Clark Foam and is practically mint 6'10" x 18 3/4 x 2 3/4 Cordell pintail thruster. Different template than the 6'6". This board is magic. I've gotten offers from friends I loaned it to buy it off me for 50 bucks more than I paid for it custom 2 years after I got it. Got 4 of the best waves of my life on it at macking Mundaka. Got it with the 6'6" before the Spain trip and it's Clark Foam. I don't need anything bigger than that. Otherwise I'd probably drown. I have a couple of 5'11"-6'1" shortboards around my house but they never see the light of day once the Griffin came in. I need to get rid of them, though I can never bother myself because they're worth anywhere from 25-100 bucks and some have unfixed dings. |

B3 is more of a small wave board. It's supposed to project lots of speed in smaller, mushier waves. Less of a pocket board than the K3 with a flatter rocker. Hell, I don't know, ask Wade. As for the 4 and 5 fin, it's a tough call. More drive in the 5-fin but mine is a little too much volume for me although it still surfs nice and loose. The 4-fin is thinner and narrower and newer and I'm just in love with it right now. Speedy, quick, releases well off the top, holds in the pocket. Seems to like a steeper wave more than the 5-fin. |

Wow. Some pretty deep boards collections out there. I'm going with: 5'9", 20.5" and 2 and 3/8" Hess Pacheco - doesn't see too much water time anymore but it's still a great fish. 6'2", 19" and 2 and 3/8" Hess Quintara - ride this all the time and mostly as a thruster set-up although it can go quad as well. Only limitation is when it's really hollow with airdrops due to the lower rocker. 6'2", 18.5", and 2 and 5/16" Xanadu thruster - this board wants to get barreled and do nothing more. Sees water time on the best days. 6'10", 18.5", and 2.5" MC Bonzer - travel and the odd large winter swell for San Diego. Had it five+ years and it's in really good shape save for a few pressure dings. Couple longboards - nada mas. |

Updated shot of most of my quiver: ![]() ![]() Left to right: 5'8" Pavel. Super wide, will ride anything a longboard can ride and just hauls ass. I call it my session saver. 6'0" Hess Lola: Likes lined up semi fat to hollow waist to head high waves. Allows you to throw buckets when you'd bog on your thruster. Approx. 35 sessions and I could strip the wax and sell it as new. Seriously not a single dent. 6'1" Launcher: Favorite board right now and has recently become sort of a quiver killer. Allows me to surf as well as I do on my 6'3" but in less than ideal conditions. Still holds well in hollow surf though. This is my first of this design and I can tell you with confidence, that this shape will always and forever be in my quiver. 6'3" Single concave thruster: Favorite board of all time. When the surf is good, I have more fun and surf the best on this board over any other. Missing in the photo are my 5'8" waveskate type board, my 9'6" longboard, and my semi gun. |

A lot of these have been sold or traded recently. They have been replaced by different Bonzers, a Griffin, and a few quads, like a Doug Haut double wing swallow with a Bonzer like bottom concave. This pic doesn't include the Aipas, Pavels,Hess, or Van Straalens, nor any board over 7'0", like my guns and longboards. I am trying to decrease this pile of foam, one board at a time. Some of these will be for sale at AB3. Good to be home.

That Pavel/Hess is an AMAZING board, finished by the pros at Moonlight. I didn't expect anything like it, but I couldn't be happier. It's like cheating. A friend of mine at Santa Barbara Surfer asked me to post pictures of it, so in the process of cleaning up today, I took the quiver pictures and some shots of the Pavel/Hess. Figured I'd revive this thread when my wife snapped this pic with her iphone. ![]() From front to back: 1) 5'0" twin fish shaped by Brownfish. Waxxed last night and ready to go today I assume. 2) 5'9" Linden Nugget w/ Starfin. Jettylocal's old board. Pretty fun board, good for North LA points. 3) 6'0" Pesce thruster. My wife's stepup board. On injured reserve right now for various dings. 4) 5'0" Drakkonis waveskate. Really fun board to screw around with when the waves suck or are closed out. It's EPS/epoxy and has taken a mega-beating and doesn't have a ding on it. 5) 5'1" Riff-Raff 3 fin bonzer. My wife's everyday board when the waves are decent. She loves this thing, even with the wrong fin in it She whips it though, so I can't say anything.6) 5'6" Barry V twin fin fish. REALLY fun board that I almost got rid of too quick. Plenty of life left in it and I'll get Barry to shape me another one when it finally dies. I really love this board. 7) 5'8" Ambrose Sputnik bonzer. Another really fun board. Doesn't get ridden as much as it should, but can handle whatever I paddle it into and performs great. 8) 5'8" Zippi keel fish. Holding this board, it feels WAY WAY WAY too big for me, but when surfing - it feels just right. I dig it. Really fun board. 9) 5'5" Brownfish Mini Simmons. Currently on injured reserve because some kook on a softtop through his board into my wife while she was riding this board. Anyway, this board has been extremely fun and was a favorite during my trip to El Salvador.10) 5'10" Jeff Alexander Gemini. I love this board. Can't seem to quite get it dialed in, and I definitely hate the "OH WOW! What kind of board is that? Two noses? WHAT? Crazy! WOW!" crap that I get whenever I paddle it out, but I've had some REALLY good sessions on this board. 11) 5'9" Al Merrick MSF. My wife's board. Pretty fun and I dig it. It's real snappy and fun to ride. Floats deceptively well for a board of its size, and my wife rips on it too. 12) 6'0" Al Merrick MSF. My board. Kind of a step up to the smaller MSF, but also fun to ride in the small stuff and just cruise along. There's a ton of "his/hers" stuff that goes on when we both ride our MSFs. ![]() 13) 5'4" EC Bonzer. Wife's board. She zips along on it. 5 fins. I've caught a couple waves on it, but not enough volume for me. 14) 5'10" Al Merrick Red Beauty. My favorite board probably. Just great all around in just about any condition and perfect for 99% of Southern California days. 15) 5'8" Glenn Pang thruster/quad. Wife's daily driver (outside of her bonzers). She's been riding this board as a twin + trailer lately, but also rides it as a quad and thruster. Pretty sweet little board and I'd like to get Pang to make me one someday. 16) 6'1" DK Thruster. Got this in a trade and haven't ridden it yet. Looks and feels like a great shortboard, and it's in practically perfect condition. Really looking forward to getting this one out. 17) 6'0" Larry Mabile keel fish. A fish that's way too big for me, but it holds a lot of sentimental value because Larry made it for me as a favor to my grandpa. Great longboard alternative on small days, and I've had it out in the bigger stuff too. 18) 5'6" Rebel Thruster. Hard to see it in the pictures behind the fish, but it's there. My wife got this thruster for dirt cheap and rips on it. She really has the board dialed in. 19) 5'8" Anacapa thruster. Got this dirt cheap again at the DiveNSurf sale. Not a big fan of Anacapas, but my wife wanted to get another thruster (since her other one was getting beat up) and this was really cheap. There were 10 of them or so there, and this was the only one that I didn't notice any defects or anything on. Maybe this is one of the boards that came out ok? I dunno, but she likes it, so it is what it is. 20) 6'3" Al Merrick Black Beauty. Got this board as a compliment to the Red Beauty and found out that it does NOT work in day to day California waves (as should be expected). Next largish swell we have, I'll put it through its paces. 21) 5'11" Zamora HP Fish. Another favorite board of mine. Literally can handle any wave you paddle it out to. I've never NOT had a fun session on this board. 22) 5'9" DK Speeddialer. I love this board, although it doesnt get the love it should. I'd like to go smaller, maybe a 5'7". I've thought about selling this one to get DK to shape me another, but it just hasn't happened. Love the board though, it's REALLY fast and I've caught some great waves on it. 23) 6'1" Zamora Twin fin. Pretty sweet board. I had my doubts on it when I got it, but it's quickly become one of my favorite boards. Kind of like a small wave version of the Brownfish twin I have. This thing goes really really well. Ian is a great shaper, no doubt. 24) 5'10" Campbell Brothers Bumblebee 5 Fin Bonzer. Board is a hair too big for me but REALLY REALLY fun. I'd want the same in a 5'8", or maybe a 5'10" that's a touch less thick. Keeping my eye out for a trade with this one, but it's fun to ride in the meantime. 25) 5'11" 80s thruster shaped by Me. This was an attempt at a "high performance shortboard" that went horribly wrong for me and Tiny Universe. I didn't have the balls to thin it out, so I just kept the rails thick and round, and kept a TON of volume on the board. The result was a pretty fun board actually. Installed ProBox on it and I run these really sweet cutaway thruster fins on it. 26) 6'0" DANC Convertible egg. Really fun and versitle board. I can ride it as a single, a quad, a thruster, a 2+1, twin w/ trailer, I've even experimented with it as a 5 fin (which was a bad experiment). Got the board for its versitility and I hardly ever ride it - go figure. But a really fun board nonetheless. 27) 6'2" Brownfish round pin twin. Really fun board for good waves. Definitely a different feel than a thruster. 28) 6'2" Campbell Brothers EPS 5 fin bonzer. Great shortboard. Only thing I don't like about it is that it was Red-X fins (which severely limits my fin choice). Very light board, very unique too. 29) 6'4" Ben Shipman 2+1 winged egg. SUPER fun small wave board and it holds its own in about head high waves too (never had it out in anything more than that). One of my wife's favorite boards too. 30) 6'5" Ryan Lovelace stepup. The Barrel Hunter. This thing had some fun in El Salvador but has yet to really experience any good waves in California (hence the lack of updates on my blog). Also waiting for some of the pictures it HAS had to come through before I can update it, the woes of not using your own camera I suppose. Anyway, this board is proven, it works. Hands down. 31) 5'10" Al Merrick MTF. This board has floated through the hands of a few BBers and is absolutely magic for me. JJR recently retrofitted it with Lokboxes and fixed a shitton of dings on it, so now it's back in use. I love this board (gay dolphin artwork on the bottom notwithstanding). 32) 6'8" Mike Estrada thruster. Great board, perfect step up for decent sized days. I tore the tail out of this board at Blacks - it's the famous "rope leg leash" board. Ahhhh memories.33) 7'0" HDX epoxy Single fin semigun. Nice little semigun that's a BIIIIIIIIIIIT wide for taking it out in anything of consequence. Pretty fun board though. Has a really "old school" feel but with modern rails. I ride a big Greenough 4A flexer in it and have had a lot of fun on this board. 34) 7'4" Uncle Mike semigun. Brand new. Unwaxxed. Haven't had waves to warrant waxing it up since I got it. 35) 7'6" Stewart Hydro Hull. Wife's longboard. Super fun board with a totally different feel than most longboards. She rides it with a different fin - a big Creatures cutaway and she rips on it. 36) 7'1" Old beat up single fin. Mandatory super old single fin for the quiver. Thought about getting it restored, but probably not worth it. Has some REALLY UNIQUE Hansen-esque 50/50 pinched rails throughtout the entire board. I've ridden it (open dings and all) a couple of times and it's different to say the least. Will probably never get restored, but I'll keep it with the hopes that one day I will, but it probably will never happen. 37) 9'6" Becker triple-stringer Longboard Noserider. Great all around noserider for So Cal. Built like a tank and it's taken a beating and kept on ticking. I STILL get compliments on this board everytime I paddle it out. Not pictured: 9'1" HP Longboard shaped by Me (at the glasser) 8'6" Stewart Gun (at my Grandfathers) A board or two being discussed to be put on order. |

I have a bigger brom fish thats stringerless with three glue lines. I bought it used and its quite old. Its ridiculously fast in small reef waves but not too good on beach breaks, at least imo whats the story on the glue lines? cosmetic or functional? also, you have a cool, albiet small wave quiver. the melor is sweet too. oh and hows the wibbulator ride, those things look really cool. sorry for the 50 questions |
Quote: Thanks for the compliment. The glue lines are definitely cosmetic, I mean, I love that look, although I imagine taking out the stinger also makes it lighter. However, there is some unintentional structural benefit I learned about. Not long after I got it the stringered board, which has an extra deck patch of 4oz cloth, started caving around the stringer and the glue lines actually hold it up, this effectively flattened the deck, something I figured out that I like (feels more stable to me), so I asked for the stringerless board with a flattened deck. So, the glue lines can "hold up" foam that might otherwise be a bit soft. Both of my Broms are customs that I asked to look that way. They are very different boards though. Steve is a great guy and a genuine craftsman. He showed me around the new-ish shop and the stuff that guy makes is incredible. I find they work in just about any conditions I can handle surfing in except backside and hollow. The 5'8" is my DD up to solid 6ft+ long period waves. I used it last weekend at a short period beach break and it worked just fine. The Wibbulator I use almost exclusively at two places and only when periods are long and waves at least 5ft. It loads up when you hit bottom and shoots you out across the top of the wave as it unloads, it's incredibly fast and difficult to slow down once you get a couple of pumps in. the fins are only attached halfway and flex as well, so they act as rudders/paddles as well. The first time I get on it after a while of not I tend to fall off the back because it takes off, it's best surfed with a really low center of gravity. That Mellor is a beauty. I told him that when I longboard I like to "point and shoot" and this is the result. He's a back yard guy who I was lucky enough to have make a board for me. He put those glue lines in himself; secured the board and cut it by walking along the length of it with a circular saw. Are you the guy that had that old Brom for sale on Craigslist? But it's stuck in LA? It's a 6'0" or bigger? If so, I'm still interested. |

Quote: That's 6'0" is next on my list. Looks like a killer everyday so-cal board for winter! My current go to working quiver (I have a ton more that I haven't surfed in a while): 1. 5'9"x20.75x2.4 JJ loaf. absolute best small wave destroyer of all time. let's me surf literally shin high waves. Haven't ridden my log all summer. 2. 5'9x20.25x2.5 Gary Hanel quad fish. This thing so much fun in waist to chest/shoulder high slopey stuff. So fast and carvy, some killer cutbacks and turns in the pocket on this one (at least feels that way ha ha ). Haven't ridden anything else in the past few weeks. 3. 5'10x19-5/8x2.4 JJ diamond tail Groveller (brand new). This is intended as my punchier smaller wave board up to about shoulder+ high or so, maybe even bigger. Think low tide HB or Newps. On order hopefully soon: 1. 6'0x19.25x2.4 everyday shortboard. Something like what AA has up there. Something rippable when the waves are good. 2. 6'2-6'5 step-up. (depending on if El Nino pays us a visit this year) edit: 2 more that I have on my mind later this year: 1. 5'9" CI Pod. One of the easiest medium wave boards to surf. Full on blast. get one w/ 5 fin setup. 2. 5'10/5'11 Aipa twin fin w/ wider tail and small trailer. Seems like it would be a hoot in the lined up point waves. ![]() Havoc |

Yeah, i was that guy, but after all the offers i got for it i realized it just wasn't worth selling for 200 or 250, can't remember what i was asking. esp since its stiiiiilllll stuck in la. But if i ever change my mind, ill give you first dibs for sure. Really like the point and shoot factor, good call. I've been looking for a longboard like that to ride in bigger waves sweet rides, again. I'm out of town right now, but i think its time for an updated quiver shot

I hate to admit this but my entire 4 board quiver is made up of imported boards. 10ft bear shaped by Micky T,New Zealand 9ft1 Town and country shaped by cerf designs(tony cerf)Australia 6ft8 Mccoy Nugget, shaped by geoff Mccoy,Australia,(this ones a bit small for me nowdays, but theres no way I would ever sell it) 7ft Mccoy Nugget, yeah cough cough shaped by some asian dude in the surftech factory Just sold my 11ft6 sup looking at a smaller sup,not sure what to replace it with Some amazing quivers on here ,probably the quiver I would most like to try would be Afoafs from page 9 |

6'0'' BYB, off the rack in San Diego years ago, had some good days on it but it's really too narrow for me 6'1'' Gary Cocroft, pretty thick all the way to the rails, not much rocker, catches everything, speedy 6'4'' Gary Cocroft, nice step up, smooth turns, handles the juice 6'6'' Gary Cocroft, good paddle power, handles some size, I've caught some bombs on it when I wish I had the... 7'2'' Gary Cocroft, semigun, really nice edge to edge transitions, flatter rocker in the tail = early paddle-in, if I can't catch it on this board, it's too big for me to surf Looking to sell the 6'0'' and get something with some more width, especially in the nose. I had 6'0'' M10 a friend gave me that was exactly how I wanted, but I snapped it. I'll probably get something similar. I've actually had this same quiver for a couple years now, boards are holding up pretty solid, and I usually mix it up enough to where I'm not overusing one board. If anything the 6'4'' will be first to snap, since I surf it a lot in winter, and I gouged it a couple times this past season. |

My quiver has gone through some changes recently - Brownfish Handplane - 6'1" Campbell Bros. Bumblebee - 6'2" Album Modfish - 6'4" Bulkley double wing swallow quad perf. shape there's a couple more that I don't really ride also so we'll leave them out of the conversation. I know this will cover me for summer and fall around here, but should this be good for North County SD winter as well? We have a baby coming in December so buying another board will likely be a hassle. I think the Bulkley will do me well when the waves get some size and power, I'm just wondering if I need something that's even more of a step-up |

I think I'll be riding those for a while, but will let you know if I ever get tired of them. I love the Whip, my favorite board of all time. XTRs are awesome. I love them. They feel like a standard PU, I can glass them a bit heavier and still get away with it. And they are super resilient. Unfortunately CI no longer is doing XTRs, I think it happened a month or two ago. I've tried EPS, which I think are okay too. I just love the feel of XTRs. |

I havent' got a new board in 4 years (i'm still sending a board payment every month to scripss/neurosurgeons/imagery labs/ etc) so this photo shows pretty much what i have left, 4 years ago I added a used 5'6 kenson quad and sold the 5 8 and i added a 6'0 Puha Bros round pin. I sold a 7'6 Byrne to Retodd and a 7'6 Puha Bros to MACSAN. sold the old Keel, and sold the Jensen. slowly making a financial comeback and will get my first new board in forever any day now (damn glassers! lol) Quote: |
