Yeah! Just go! March-April is when all the famous surf videos are usually filmed, especially up in the Mentawais. Bali comes alive in March-April usually with the end of the wet season and the start of the sun/surf season! You'll still get a few wet days, and variable winds, but as compensation the surf is much less crowded than the traditional peak season of June, July, August. And lots of glassy days in the Mentawais. Full details of all the places to surf are in "Indo Surf & Lingo" or the Surfer mag Travel Report.

just go. you'll be stoked. if you are going for 2 full months you'll have plenty of time to check out java, sumbawa, bali, sumatra, and the mentawais. definitely by Indo Surf and Lingo. the translation and tide table in the back is worth the price of the book alone.

April was one of thebest months I have seen there. Overhead every day for a month. It was unreal.
I would imagine Lombok would be good for sure....Bali is such a scene now. Make Bali your homebase but check some other islands.

I agree with the getting off of Bali philosophy. Bali is great, and it works well as a home base for any Indo trip but you have to get off of it to really fullfill your Indo experience. Wave/Crowd ratio is great that time of year and anywhere from Sumatra to Sumba will be worth a look. Best way to do it is to come to Bali, find a base, and then book trips based on swell as it's quite easy to leave to pretty much anywhere at the drop of a hat.
