This is way off topic but since I know there are a bunch of guitarists on here I figured this would be a good place to ask
So I just sold my SG Special, I had been wanting to for a while to get a Telecaster but my recent wedding gave me a kick in the ass to just go ahead and sell it so I had extra money for the wedding. Anyway, I am in the market for a Telecaster and I have a couple of questions.
I mainly play blues/country/classic rock/etc. I like a reverb drenched twangy sound. I also don't have an amp right now but I am going to buy a Fender Deluxe Reverb reissue or some kind of Fender tube amp.
I am thinking about either a Fender Highway One Tele or a Fender Deluxe Tele reissue. I've always liked the looks of the Deluxe but I am worried that I will not be able to get that classic Tele twang with the humbuckers. Does anyone have any experience with that guitar? I like the Highway Once because it seems like I'll be able to get the twang but still a little bit of breakup too since the single coils are hotter.
Thanks for any help, sorry for the NSR essay

I don't think you'll get the twang with duel humbuckers.

IMO the bridge/saddle/plate of the classic tele setup is where the twang factor comes from (and technique). Personally I'd stick w/ the single coils and go for the Highway One rather than changing the sound going with humbuckers. I ALMOST got a Deluxe with trade a month or so ago and the guy backed out of the deal. I miss my twin reverb amp

I never had my own Fender amp but my bass player's dad (from my band in high school) had a silverface twin that I would always use for practice instead of my Marshall and the best amp I ever got to play through was when I used to play at the Youth Mass when I was a kid. It was a 66 Blackface Super Reverb, so sick

I love the Super Reverb 4X10". I just traded this in.
And am having one of these upgraded with a Weber Blue speaker.

The Twin was TOO much amp, plus it weighed 89 pounds.

the classic Tele "twang" comes from those single coils. the humbucker teles don't sound like teles, they have more of a buzz saw sound to them.(jmho of course) a Twin Reverb with a TS-9 tube screamer to goose the front end would be an awesome set-up for what you are going for sound-wise.

Why are you asking this? Go to a shop and plug it in. See if you can tell on your own. If you're worried that much, get the standard.

Blasphemy, I say, blasphemy! There's never too much anything about a Twin and nothing like the sound of a classically set-up Tele or Strat through one. Both of the guys I play with use them (one with a '68 Tele and the other with Strats and all kinds of hollow-ed out options).
ifallalot, stay true to the axe and it'll do for you want you want it to.

there are cheaper amp options than fender. i really like my peavey classic 30. more than enough headroom to play clean with drums with my strat.

Price is always a huge consideration and Peavey's are okay, they've certainly come a long way in the last 3 years, but if it's the warmth and growl of a classic tube amp you're after, you're not gonna get it from any Peavey, well, compared to a Fender, Mesa, Marshall or Oldfield.

speak for yourself. i like my classic 30 better than every other lower watt fender model except for the princeton reissue.
and don't even get me started about any fender amp made in the 80's.

Carvin has some nice ones for cheaper than Fender.

Fender Deluxe Reverb is a good choice-not TFL. Built in spring reverb in Fender amps is usually the best for what you described.

I also say if you want a Tele get the single coil. I've had a bit of problems with the push-switch on the humbucker model, and they're a huge pain in the ass to replace, and if not under warranty...hoooo...you're gonna pay. Carvin makes a gorgeous guitar and amp, but my line is...it's a favorite guitar till you sell it for something else. Only know a few guys who've ever hung onto them. The Peavey Classic 30 is a great amp, IMHO...but if you can afford it, so is the Twin, and the Mesa Lone Star.
