Laotian New Year this weekend. Heading to the temple in Riverside, gonna be a ton of good food from all the different booths set up.

I simmered a white sea bass head and shrimp shells with hot peppers, carrots, onions garlic etc, took out the head, picked out the collar and cheek meat, put in for another hour and strained then threw the good stuff back in. Spicy fish head soup with shrimp and sambal olek and cilantro

I started buying stuff out of the Fresh & Easy off code section of food.
It's all reduced price, just old.
I love eating old cheap food for some reason.
I told a friend and she said I was crazy. She is organic everything.
I told her I'm just gettin startin.
I'm going to up the ante and do some dumpster divin' next.

Celebrated Laotian New Years with the family today. Several dozen vendors selling a variety of food. Made an offering at the temple, all of us were blessed by a Buddhist monk, and chilled watching all the young hooligans spray each other water (part of the traditional blessing) and then later silly string and shaving cream (a bit less traditional  ). Will be fun to watch my daughter take part in that in later years. Was a really cool cultural experience.
In the meantime, feasted on a ton of food including:
Spicy (and was it - you do NOT want any part of that liquid at the bottom) Papaya Salad and Sausage with Sticky Rice
A few other dishes and then my wife went and got me some balut for dessert.

Relative of my wife's had their baby blessed today. Full-on buffet spread of:
Spicy Papaya Salad
Sticky Rice
Larb
Lumpia
Raw Beef Larb (damn good - first time having this)
Pancit
Steamed Bamboo Stew
No pics sorry but take my word for it - extremely tasty and filling.
They also had some Laotian style moonshine. 150 proof and damn smooth considering.

We'll see. Maybe there will be some at our baby blessing this weekend that I can commandeer. Although we both know that none of it will escape - the crew today had been taking shots of it last two days. Loud, rowdy, and having a good time.
I will have to find the recipe for this...
