Coming from a production standpoint, I think that the decision was made about the safety of the photogs. That being said, I'll volunteer to shoot if those guys are scared of getting clobbered down the reef getting out of the scaffolding
The scaffolding looks like the cameras could be protected enough that they could stay out there until the swell goes down enough as long as they are covered, but that equipment is a lot of money to sit out at a fairly precarious place

what a session!! can't believe the balls on those guys flipping around for those monsters. would have been absolutely terrifying to see in real life.
couldn't help but be thankful for the technology which make sessions like this possible nowadays. webcast + water patrol skis + life jackets. so epic that nobody got annihilated / sent to the hospital(at least i think that's the case for now) or drowned or anything. those guys on the skis are heroes. saving people's lives every time a set came through. amazing stuff.
props to all the guys who pulled in as well.
ps the fact that it wasn't just 20ft cloudbreak but 20ft SQUARING OFF cloudbreak made the session unforgettable
I had a little bit of a buzz on, and kept exclaiming "do you know how major this is? A swell like this, with all the pros and live camera crews already in place for the contest...This is historic, blah blah"
"yes honey, I understand, just like that last 5 times you asked..."
Exactly what happened to me. My 6-year old was mesmerized watching on my iphone before bed and we couldn't put it down.
I kept explaining how cool it was to be watching it live and how historic it was. My wife thought it was cool also, but I was so pumped and ( + ) my enthusiasm + ampedness wasn't the most beneficial for getting my little girl to bed.
Just tuned in. The swell drop this fast? I assume this is still cloudbreak?
How far ahead is John-john over Chloe? After yesterday's paddle session, Parko and John-John and of course Ramone impressed me the most. Dane's drop was nothing short of wicked.

Ummmmmm... what happened? 36 pages to 6? Hey OneWorldEd, why trim this thread? Why not clear some space from the political or what's for dinner or nothing threads?
Is it because we were talking about the corpos? Or did Andino get a lawyer?

Nice Work Whomever created pic. I found a heart deep, deep, deep down in my chest cavity and have started feeling sorry for the kid. He is surrounded by the industry pressure and pressure from $ contracts and maybe elsewhere.
Kolohe looks all alone in that picture. I am sure that he is never left alone? Minders, parents, brobahs.........i'm not sure what is missing.
15 hours today at work wooohoooo

Here is a great video form NIKE Surfing about judges and the point score. I like NIKE because they don't only use cheap Chinese labor, they use cheap Indonesian and Cambodian labor too.

I don't get the Kolohate. He's a promising young Californian who so obviously cares about the opportunity he has, he has had a nice, carving style since he was very young, and plus, he's a French prostitute with webbed feet who birthed Dr. Evil off the jizzum of a guy who claimed to invent the question mark!
My form's keynav isn't working and I'm a blonde cvnt hair from smashing some gear that costs way more than a (insert design he may have driven the shaping on that increases erBBer stock).
Hey Kolohe, I and everyone in San Clemente know a low-key place where people will treat you how you treat them, and you can have fun and work on the delayed takeoff/immediate stall to your heart's content, with no cameras (leave your filmer at home) and no people delighting in your every frustration. Plus the mangoes are on point.
Surfing doesn't need more Irons/Eggers/Wood/Peterson tragedies.
