In '68 the filming of the 12 minute Bullitt chase scene took about 2 weeks, 3 Mustangs, several Chargers and miscellaneous parked cars. Although the chase was fraught with horrible editing (same VW beetle 5 or 6 scenes, the Charger losing 7-8 hubcaps, McQueen's right wrist watch when he was filmed driving from back seat v his stunt driver's left wrist watch, a camera being destroyed and caught in the film, the Charger missing the gas station on film with the explosion being left in the film, etc., etc.) the editor was awarded an academy award for editing in 1968.
FF, you and your team have brought filming to an entirely new level. McQueen would have been proud to work with you cats.

Wow, thank you. By far the coolest compliment I've ever received, and from somebody who hung out with the Man himself no less.
On Any Sunday has been a big early influence on me.
Here is a great little behind the scenes film of the things you mentioned happened during the filming of Bullett. The Beetle, flying hubcaps, smashing parked cars and all.... I love this period in American cinema.

from comments section I concur.
I actually kinda liked the use of the song. Just whoever edited the music did a horrendous job of it. There were at least 3 cringe worthy edits in there that I'd probably lose my job over.

Furious Fiesta: Drivers on the upper deck of the Bay Bridge may have noticed a series of circular tire streaks midway between San Francisco and Treasure Island - the kind laid down by someone burning doughnuts.
And that's just what they are.
The marks were made over the weekend by a Ford Fiesta being filmed for a commercial.
"We do commercials all the time," said Officer Tony Tam, spokesman for the California Highway Patrol.
As for the appropriateness of advertising a car doing doughnuts on the bridge?
"They pay," Tam said, "so we let them do whatever they want as long as it's within the permit."

Grass is always greener. I often feel I'd prefer to spend my life surfing, shredding the pow and fishing somewhere in the deep wilderness of Pacific NW.

The only time I ever knew McQueen to be depressed was when Hickman hit the back of the parked 55 or 56 Ford and took out a movie camera on a tripod. If you look at the clip posted to this thread and watch closely, you'll see the camera go flying to the left on screen. All the camera's were Solar Production's (Steve's company). Steve was notoriously tight with a $. By the way, Hickman was following Jimmy Dean in his Spyder when the car pulled out in front of Dean. Hickman pulled Dean's body from the Porsche... sorry to go off track here. Some memories of youth ;-)

I remember seeing a doco that talked about the two cars in Bullit... The Charger was pretty much untouched with aftermarket addons whereas the Mustang was loaded with stuff to make it handle like it did in the movie..

Lasted about a minute watching that. Can't stand it. Street drifting is stupid, polluting, inefficient, slower than real racing. Looks fun for him, though... but he also has to breathe all that shitty tire smoke. Wwwwankfest.
