Rumors that eight-time world champ Kelly Slater has thrown in the towel and retired are false. The rumors surrounding Slater’s retirement began circulating in the wake of his loss to Dean Morrison during the Rip Curl Pro Search event in Chile. When asked directly by SURFER if the rumors were true, Slater replied, “Retired…no, not yet.”
But should he?

Of course he shouldnt. Hes the best surfer of our time and still has a lot of gas in the tank. He should look at Occy as an example of "when" to retire.

No way. He can still out surf the whole tour at any given time or place. Any title with out him on tour is not as good. I would think that even if his chances of winning it all this year are shot, that he would enjoy a "spoiler" role for once. Would if he beats AI in a quarter and puts him out of contention? He'd have to get a kick out of that.
He need to have a sit down with Occy. We've all seen Kelly act, Hollywood can wait. The tour needs him.

If you saw the heat with Dingo...Slater was frickin amazing
they both were blazing.Dean got a 10 and just aussified
his way to victory.Slater would have taken it but the wave never came....on his second to last wave he was leaning no-handed with his back just stalling the fuck out....staying in the pocket...it was freaky.
If he quits near the top of his game so be it,but with him gone....it ain't gonna be the same.

Talked to a friend who is a big wig at Quiksilver and he said that Slater is not retiring. It's all bullshit and was a stupid media rumor.
He's gonna spoil AI's and Fanning little party.

When I saw it the first time during the heat, I was blown away. Then to see the replays. Unfukingbelievable. Dingo won that heat by getting the right waves and doing what the rest of the top ten would do, but Slater was mind-boggling.

I shot this at the snapper contest back in march this year. I was heading back to the car on the top of the hill in the pouring rain. Never one to write Kelly off and turn my back, I heard over the speakers that he was up and riding. When he cleared the trees where I could get a shot, he did this carve.
I was thinking keep flying and do a super floater and hope for the best.  He does the carve, then starts flying into that next section you see, goes for the super late floater, and clears the whole thing.. then hits the lip on the other side. 
Whole 'nother level.  We better hope he don't retire.

Slater still wins whatever he wants. He is simply to good and still in his prime to retire. He can retire twice more and still win a couple more titles if You ask me. Maybe he'll join the PGA for a couple years then come back and win it.
slater can beat you switchfooted.
