DREAM TOUR - Which WCT locations would you add or axe?
      #1236095 - 08/17/07 09:26 AM

It’s been a strange few years for the World Tour’s scheduling department. With Japan falling off the map in 2006 and Tavarua clipped from the itinerary this year courtesy of a Fijian coup, the global trail of the world’s best surfers is now two stops short. Recently, rumors alleged that yet another event could be on the chopping block. Which got us thinking: If it were up to you, which event would you axe from the tour? And if you had the power, which location would you add?

Get rid of Brazil and probably Mundaka.

Add an Indo spot, West Oz, Mexico(you know where), maybe even another US spot.

Haliewa and Sunset need to be WCT events. Get rid of Brazil and Japan, add Steamer Lane, add an East Coast spot, Puerto Rico, bring back Reunion, and leave Barra alone. Go to Peurto Escondido on a huge swell. I want to see more big waves, wipeouts, and at least 12-15 solid contests. Margaret River and Sydney have been overlooked for years. Cronulla and The Box would be insane.

A big wave spot. How can we say that they are the BEST contest surfers if there is no legit big wave spot? Anybody can do ok at chest high Trestles. Tahiti is big but not 9' gun big, and when it does get huge its all tow ins. Lets see who can handle a huge closeout at Waimea. Lets see who can handle a gun in some big surf. Theres maybe 6-8 people on the wct who ride big waves.

As for consistency, make it a random type thing like any other contest except with a few possible locations. When one of the spots gets big hold the event. Anybody who cant handle it looses points and standings

Or maybe Alaska cause its cold

Kirra is dead. Maybe when they redo the sand.
Mundaka can produce, but it's fickle. Portugal has the good stuff. Or Morocco. Japan rarely has anything but crap, typhoons and that one giant day Curren rode are exceptions.
I agree with the big wave stuff. Add Ocean Beach, San Francisco in December. Hell, Maverick's, too. Let's see Dane Reynolds at 40' Mav's. No life vests and you HAVE to paddle.
Surfing needs to be scary again, like punk rock. Go to a gig these days and it's all 12 year olds and their parents. Bring back giant waves and no security.

The big wave idea is legit, the best surfers in the world should be able to handle 2'-40', Kelly Slater second at Mavs backs up his best ever rep. Plus it adds variety into the format, switch it up! Like the cold water idea too, perhaps something akin to the Red Bull IceBreak? But would they still call it the Dream Tour!?

Replace one of the small wave stops (CA, Japan, or Brazil) with a big wave tow in contest. it's time

I'd axe "The Rip Curl Search" stop and give it to Sunset HI.

Until the jack-asses that run the tour can enter and exit a locale without breaking the endless string of promises they put forth to each location's locals and governments prior to their arrival and abuse of the area....

Besides, Sunset deserves to be back on the 'CT and not just part of the Triple Crown.

Maybe mix it up a bit. Make them alternate between death-defying waves and shameless shit-mush within a couple days of each other. The latter, you don't really need a waiting period as it's the same 340 days of the year anyways!

In this order:

Teahupoo
Typhoon Lagoon
Jaws
Pacific Beach
Pipe
Great Lakes
Shipstern's Bluff
Carlsbad
Mavericks
Gulf Coast Florida
Dungeons
La Jolla Shores
Sunset (Hawaii)
Sunset (LA aka Sunslop)
Shark Island
Galveston

and so on... test the pros through alternate forms of bravado and cruelty, make them EARN that cash!

Add Puerto Escondido. Get rid of Brazil. The waves were pretty bad at Chopes this year and no Tavarua really hurt. If Chopes had pumped and Tavarua had gone off, you can bank that Mick Fanning would NOT be sitting in the cat bird's seat right now.

a season of 100% hawaii. take your pick for spots on the NS in winter and then mix in some other island breaks.
