ZippiPendo
      #1687915 - 10/20/09 03:33 PM

Just dropped off my Zippifish to Steve Pendarvis for pendo-conversion today.

Steve and Cher are a pleasure to interact with. Steve seemed really stoked about his work and explained everything in detail.

Also, the turnaround time seems to be excellent. the board should be ready to flex next week!

More later once i get to test the board.

Board pre pendo-conversion:

Sounds cool. I've seen so many Pendo's at my favorite local reefs—I'm always eyeing them thinking something cool is going on there.

I'm debating Pendoflexing a Christenson keel but have never done it. Any thoughts? What boards work best with the Pendo magic?

thanks.

sickness,

I have a pendo that i'm liking a lot

and was thinking about having a christenson pendoeized. I think that would be a magic combo in small waves...

but when i stripped the wax i found it was still in really good condition so i guess i'm waiting

Picked up the board yesterday. The board was ready in ten days as Steve promised. Stoked about the result. The board is actually in better shape now as compared to when i dropped it off. tail was rebuilt, there is a new patch in front of the backfoot area and Steve even fixed some dings on the bottom. Great service. plus the work is very well done.

Here are pics post pendo-conversion:

Took it out yesterday with some thigh-waist high waves. didnt get enough chances to break it in yet or to form very accurate judgments about the pendo-influence but it def feels like i have a new board under my feet!

It has a subtle feel - as-if you were on a skateboard that is flexing very slightly. it def has more of a springy feel to it. in relation to the discussion on 101 Bamboo fins, the pendoflex seems to give some twang to the board. cant say for sure but it felt like the board comes faster coming off a bottom turn. sort of unloading the flex into more speed. i will post some form of review after more sessions.

Real stoked on the "new" board i have done! Thanks Steve!

I asked Steve about which boards are suited for being pendoflexed. apparently pretty much every board can be pendoed. however, subsequently, he also mentioned that tails shouldn't be too thin. they will require to be strengthened in order to work with the new tail construction. CC keels have a thinner tail as compared to boards like zippifish.

havent had chances to take it out unfortunately.

Overall. The board feels "springy." a new feel to the board. love it.

Responsiveness. more responsive. gets to the top easier/faster as compared to before.

Speed. This friday morning i was surfing some waist/chest high pearky windswell and on one particular wave the board took off like crazy after a pump. it actually went airborne! it seemed to get this extra burst of speed from somewhere. i am assuming this is what Steve meant when he said that the pendo treatment is like supercharging your fish.

i will post some real feedback after i get the board out in some decent waves.somehow missed the swell last weekend which really was my chance.

not sure how much foam is left next to the fins. kinda difficult to explain unless you see the actual pattern that Steve follows in removing the foam. he removes some foam closer to the glass next to the fins. but...there is still PLENTY of foam left in the board even after the pendo treatment.

I was really intrigued after seeing this post. After emailing Rid and talking about it several times, I decided to give Steve Pendarvis a call. I dropped my 5'11" KG Larry Mabile twinzer off to him last week at Diamond Glassing/ Greenroom Glassing in S.D. I saw a few of the boards that were mid-transformation.

He takes out foam on the inside of the fins in 2 channels. Thats why you see the black on the inside of the zippi. The center of the board around the stringer is thicker.

He says he reinforces it all with 6oz glass.

Up to this point - I am pretty impressed. He took the time to talk to me about his designs and theory. I sucked it all up like a sponge. I'll be sure to post pics and do a review once its done.
