just a hint - if you go EPS, you might wanna go shorter. mine is 6'0 x 20 7/8 x 2 1/2 and it floats me like a champ but no overly so. I'm 6'0 / 185+. If i were to reorder the board I'd probably drop an inch or 2 in length... Like 5'10 x 20 3/4 x 2 1/2... DP77's is poly.
Will keep that in mind...

Get a custom EPS from Sean. If you're super comfortable on the dims of your fish, and don't see any need to go with less foam, order those same dims. If you'd like to scale down a bit to either give you more performance capability, or just because you feel like you could handle less foam without a problem, maybe go 6'2"ish, based on what you're currently surfing. With this board, going with the exact same dims as your favorite fish shape would work fine. You can tweak it a bit, and go slightly longer/narrower than your fish to be able to cover steeper and/or larger waves a tad better as well. Personal preference, and what you want to get out of the board should be discussed with Sean...he'd know best.

I do want to trim a bit of foam compared to my fish, but don't want to over do it and give up to much float and paddle power. I'm thinking it will give me more range with maneuverability as well as with wave size. Something between yours and dawnpatrol77's dims seem to make sense to me. The Boardworks version I was able to get under arm felt pretty good and it was 6'2"x21 1/8"x2 3/8". The 6'4"x21 3/8"x2 1/2" size felt a little too big/heavy. Defintely will go through Sean as soon as I sell off one of my other boards.

That looks super nice! Stoked for you. Thanks for posting those pics. I was thinking about getting color but white looks great too! As always, when you get enough water time....ride report please.

Picked up a set of these fins from Mattison the other day. Can't wait to try 'em in the Shadow!
FINALLY got to try these fins out this evening in my Shadow. I think they may have just made my favorite board ever even better. Fast, solid, predictable, easy to flick up into the lip quickly, and so buttery on tight carves. Want to surf them a bunch more, then compare them to the Aurora fins I've loved in it so much, but SUPER good first impressions. Those ordering customs from Mattison, I highly recommend getting it with these fins.

It seems that the majority of Shadow owners are favoring that setup. That small center reminds me of the FCS B5

I don't like Sean's center fin! it slid out, but would grab at the wrong time. The MR trailer works great with Sean's twin fins, nice control while still being able to busting them loose. My Shadow is a go to board

Had my first solid session on my Shadow this am. After riding my Coils for the past 2 days (needed rocker to make the steep drops) it took me a few waves to acclimate to a board with lower nose rocker, but when I did, the board went amazing. Super fast down the line speed, buttery smooth rail to rail, top turns feel nice and snappy compared to other fish type boards I've been on in the past. Rode board with stilettos. I think Sean hit one out of the park with this design. Between this and my coils, I'm set. (and longboard for the little rollers)

Shadow ride report. This board is amazing. Had it out quite a bit this weekend in shoulder-head high decent waves. What a blast to ride. What I really noticed this past few sessions is it's instant speed. Really gets going easily and is just such a smooth ride. Switched the stilletto fins out with fins Sean designed for himself. If you go to the Von Sol blog you can see them in his Von Knight. I really like these fins. Feels like you can push off them a bit harder than the stilettos.Anyone who's looking for fish down the line speed with way more maneuverability, the Shadow is the ticket. I freakin love it!

Had mine out a few times recently with Mattison's twins and that keel-looking trailer. Smooth and drivey down the line and you can push on 'em as hard as you're able without them sliding out. Nice, round carves. Switched out the trailer for my trusty GS trailer fin and it still had the drive but with the ability to pivot a touch tighter and/or break the fins loose a bit when you want to. Both killer feels, just different to suit your mood.
Talked to Sean today and he was giddy about a new fit setup he's been playing with. Those larger twins in the front, with two of those low-profile keel trailers as the rear fins in a quad configuration. Sounds funky, but the guy plays with fin setups as much as anyone on his designs and he says this setup does everything you could want....that it's super drivey and fast, but can be thrown around like crazy in the Shadow. Will have to investigate this further!

If anyone ever wants to sell a Shadow in the 5'6"-5'9" range and doesn't mind helping get it to Honolulu, let me know! I've really enjoyed the other fish from Sean and would love to get a Shadow too.

On the phone with him now -- about two of the mini-keels: "When I put them on the sides with the twin fins, it feels like I can drive on the bases like with a full size keel but break 'em loose and they're really fun." He sounds amped.
He can only sell them as a twin set with two mini-keels. $65.
Geez the guy rips so hard and has the dream job, you might think he'd be kind of a rockstar, but he's so cool and nice and gives you so much info on the stuff and his stoked-out riding impressions. Total stocker.

Regarding the website, I know the content has been ready to put up for some time now...think it's just an issue of Mattison having a look that he's really stoked on, and that really translates well for the brand. He doesn't want to just throw something up that will need to be re-done later. Hopefully it's finished soon!
Juan, you're right. Tons of stoke poured into the boards, fins, and whole package. Pretty apparent when you talk to him about any of it.
Hope to pick up my new toy from him tonight or tomorrow.

Sean was kind enough to loan me one of his keel trailers when I picked up the new board, to use with mine as a quad setup. Will report back once I've had a few surfs with 'em.
Also got to see a mock-up of the website, which will hopefully be done soon and offer lots more info. about the boards and tie together his other projects too.

Well I tried it...Pretty fun... Double the trailer fins and double the drive and the funny looks... Lost the looseness that I've been used to. Its a good quad alternative for sure.
Gonna try some different trailers next - one at a time.

Other than the obvious differences (i.e., the Ewing and 5 fin plugs) how similar are these boards to a Mandala round pin quad or Christensen cafe racer. Outline looks similar from pics. Very interested in a board like this for an upcoming trip. Anyone ridden/seen these boards in person and can give a comparison? I'm guessing the Von sols are more "HP" (shortboardy) where's the others more closely resemble a fish derivative???

the vonsoul boards will be more " rippa " for sure. turnaround time should be way faster too.

Yep the customs ordered board thru Mr. Mattison are EPS. Pretty darn light and strong to boot. I saw some poly versions(moonlight glass) at Surfy Surfy and DP77 has a poly.
You're looking at over $200-$300 more for a CC or Mandala - new ones that is. The CC's I saw at Mitch's are heavy glass. There are a lot of similar shapes out there like the Shadow. Rusty Dwart, T Patterson Rising Sun, Xanadu Gipos, Firewire Dominator, etc - hell, I had a Sauritch and a Mabile that resembled the Shadow.
I went with this board because I LOVED the Black Knight series. The rocker is very similar to the BKQ boards.

I've tried running these two keel trailers with my Aurora twin fronts a couple times now and here's what I've noticed so far.... Really drivey and fast. Almost feels like twin keels do in the sense that you have a lot of base to push off of when coming off the bottom or in carves. They allow you to do more drawn-out, smooth and buttery carves as opposed to the feeling of being able to snap the board around release that the twin+trailer gives you. Can throw the board up vertical (relatively speaking for my kook-ass) and it's solid. I'd love to try this setup in a reef-break setup with lots of shoulder/wall to work with as I think they'll make the board a carving machine...feels like they want to be on rail and driving. Pretty cool, and quite different than the twin/trailer and other quad setups I've been running.

Surfed my Shadow with my trusty twin/trailer setup this morning in super clean, but pretty soft waves locally. Another guy who surfs the same spot regularly (and who also lurks around here) was out and we swapped boards for a few waves. I think it was after his very first wave that he paddled back out with a grin on his face and said he wanted one. After two or three more (and after telling me his wife would kill him if he got another board), he said, "That's it, I'm calling Mattison and getting one!"
