How many boards in your quiver?
      #2029398 - 04/15/11 12:51 AM

How many boards does everyone have in their quiver? I have 5 total, a 5'8 small wave/ daily driver and two better wave boards 5'10 and 6'0 and two freebies I found in a garbage can and repaired for my friends to ride when my boards are too small.

Right now I'm looking at selling/ getting a new 5'10 or 5'11 and maybe getting something other than a Thruster. Maybe an akila twin fin. That's it though.

What's everyone elses quiver count?

Hi Roy,
got any footage of yourself riding the twinnie?
Just sold my 8' Dick Van Straalen, carbon fibre all rounder to fund a new 6'6" Van Straalen carbon fibre "weiner" (egg planshape).
So my quiver has shrunk to two with one more on the way in about 3 more weeks.
Dan McDonald 5'6" mini-simmons and a Michael Cundith 7' 2+1 diamondtail which is a 70's planshape with modernised bottom and rails.
Sure cuts down on the "what do I surf today" conundrum.

would like to see some myself, either of you Roy, or your son riding it

on topic:
2 boards, 7'0 and 8'0
7'0 Christenson round tail quad, covers everything from thigh high to as big as my area gets
8'0, a Thrailkill close set twin that will surf giant waves, and is more fun than just about any board I can imagine once the surf gets chest high and wally...it's 8'0 but fast as hell and nimble like nobody's business
pretty sure the 8'0 is going up for sale soon
have a 6'6 broomtail fish on order with Thrailkill
and my debate skills are not as sharp as they once were with my wife in the "I need another board" category
well, that and we are broke at the moment... she took receiving the order card for the 6'6 in the mail pretty darn well... "did you order another surfboard?"
"yes.... but but but but...I'm gonna sell one of my boards to pay for it..."
I caved.
of course she thinks the 8'0 is a 9'0 longboard... boardbags

In order from oldest to me to newest:

5'9'' Stretch Rat Skate quad
5'7'' White Diamond
6'2'' JS Bruce Irons round pin
5'8'' Tomo MPH vector quad

I'd also like to see someone surfing Roy's smaller boards, that twin fin in particular.

I'm not playing the "spend an hour trying to think of all your boards to type up your quiver" game ever again

7 boards total, 3 that are in primary rotation.

1. 5'7" Ward Coffey Speed Dialer
Glass on fins. Fun for small days on lined up point breaks.

2. 5'7" Dave Vernor Rocco
5-fin setup. A fang tail and deep single concave give this a tight turning radius. My daily driver when it's head high and under on the beach breaks.

3. 5'10" Dave Vernor Roundtail Quad
My daily driver winter shortboard or summer step-up for solid south swells.

4. 6'0 Ward Coffey 6-Channel Thruster
Squash tail. This used to be my go-to shortboard, but I've been riding quads more lately.

5. 6'3" Dave Vernor Roundtail Quad
My step-up board for overhead to double overhead.

6. 6'3" Channel Islands K Stepup
I need to sell this board as my 6'3" quad is seeing all the action. However, fond memories of Indo barrels keep it on the racks for now.

7. 7'6" Doug Schroedel mini-gun
I've had this board since 1996. Usually only get to ride it a handful of times each year. But when it's solid, this thing is magic.

I'm looking to add a 6'8" before next winter to fill the gap between my 6'3" and 7'6". I'll probably get the 5'10" quad reshaped into a 5'9" within the next year.

More than a lot of surfshops. There is a picture of me when someone searches for the definition of boardwhore. Not worried about it though because having them keeps me in the water and surfing when the conditions are marginal.

Problem is I still want to try more. Currently interested in a Tomo, Mandala Mini Arctail Quad, Cole Trunk Board, etc... The list keeps on going. So many nice boards out there.

Hi Pete, my son Tristan made that one, I'm not likely to get back on to shortboards unless i make enough money to buy my house on the point in Raglan back again.

The twin is narrow in the tail and has a lot of planshape curve, it's designed as a stable easy to turn board for learning and playing around in the shorebreak.
