I think that the time period is in direct proportion to how good the spot is and how bad the last contest was. fvcking Tavarua after Rio = Lets start blabbing!

This is going to be amazing! I found out after the fact that the Trestles event was on live TV in HD here in LA? I always watch online or use heat analyzer but watching it on the big screen would be sweet. Is this happening for other events as well or was it some Nike fairy dust? My money is on Kolohe in Fiji.

my prediction is kolohe gets eaten alive in the first round at cloudbreak, and then too scared to go out again. he then gets dumped by target and nike, then blows his brains out all over his fathers new sneakers.

THe picture's actually not that great. At least that's how lowers was. Maybe I had my tv settings wrong, but I have plasma and it wasn't that clear.
Ended up watching it on intarweb.

Agreed. The picture quality was much better online. Not sure why they couldn't have gotten the high quality stream to work better on tv.

I predict TKnox will get eliminated in 1st round, but if anyone questions why he's still on tour, will be met with "he still kills it and surfs better than you do"

as much as i love TKnox...especially since he trolls here with the UBB shout out....big barreling lefts aren't his strong suit.
My friend Nick does the Japanese language broadcast for some of the Quik events.
I asked him if they see the comments online about broadcast quality. He said they do and that he is amazed at the job the tech crew does to broadcast an event. He said they work hard and have a lot of obstacles to deal with. Not only is it a mobile unit but they are at the beach. In the case of Cloudbreak they are in the middle of the ocean.
I'm stoked at how far media coverage of surf contests have come. I remember when the events were held in crappy waves and we would have to wait 3 months for the mags to run a story on it.

Its because whatever TV station that was streaming it was probably just taking the HD feed over the internet and using a decoder to change the IP multicast to HDSDI. You have to have a very high quality stream to get even an approximation of "real" HDSDI and an expensive decoder. Even if you have the best IP to MPEG decoder that exists it won't give you a good output if you are feeding it a lower resolution input

Quote: I actually have a pretty stacked team thanks to having JJ/Mick/Jordy since the 1st event.
Of course now that I said that, all these proven goofyfoots (rest of my team) will all get smoked.
Same. I have JJ/Mick/Julian/Kerr all at good discounts. Actually trying to decide if I should drop Kerr and his value for a goofyfooter / barrel rider.

Not even. Kerr charges backside barrels.

Don't admit you have a good team. If ya do, you're pretty much faaacked
This is my first time playing FS..I have no idea what I'm doing.
I got a question: Is it better to leave a spot open and fill your second to the last spot with a better surfer, or is it better to make sure all your spots are filled, even if the last 2 or 3 guys are lower tier?
