Quote: And I thought I was one of the few surfers infatuated with real country music.
I play in two country bands. But that's just 'cuz I'm too old for punk rock.
They're pretty much the same thing - three chords and a bad attitude.
And I love that David Allen Coe song, especially the last verse:
I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison And I went to pick her up in the rain But by the time I got to the station in my pickup truck She got run over by a damned old train
The perfect Country Western song indeed.

bluegrass is kinda fun to listen to sometimes i was in nashville a few weeks ago and checked out a bunch of bars with live bands - all different kinds of country i'll usually enjoy any live music, but there were a 2 bands in one bar that were really really good cowabunga rg
i HATED country music for most my life. then one hangovered surf sojourn i couldn't bother to change the radio station and hank senior (they had a special all-hank hour) salved my soul and opened my mind.
a remote surf destination i often go to only has country or jeezuz radio stations. so it's become ritual to those trips.
i like that country can sing about grandma and first love, and sweet things w/o all the selfaware cynicism and too-coolness of rock.
