Board Dimension Thoughts
      #2332147 - 06/21/12 08:53 AM

Hola, first time poster here from a gulf coaster in Florida. Booking a trip for this winter and most of my boards are short and fat (florida boards), and I am looking for some stepup options for some customs. I am about 6'1 175 and am an intermediate level surfer. The trip includes Costa Rica, Australia (gold coast), and Bali. The one board I am for sure bringing is a 5'10 20 1/4 2 1/2. I tend to like shorter boards as compare to most people in my height/weight, anyways to the point, here are some dimensions I am looking at:

6'1 - 19 1/8 - 2 7/16 - squash
6'2 - 19 1/4 - 2 7/16 - round
6'4 - 19 1/8 - 2 7/16 - round

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Looks pretty spot on to me. I'm right around your size but I prefer little longer boards lately, 6'0"-6'2" DD, 6'4"-6'5" step up, 7'2" mini gun, 8'0" gun. I do have some short stubbies but rarely ride them around here as it's usually too juicy. I would just make sure you have at least one board with decent rocker, foiled rails and a pulled in tail.

If you're thinking three boards, I would probably go for a little wider variation:

6'1" squash for waist to head and a half

6'3" round, narrow sqaush or round pin, overhead to double

6'6"-6'8" round pin maybe? depends if you are planning on surfing bigger waves or not. nothing worse than being undergunned and it's always nice to have some extra length and volume for heavy currents and paddle-ability. if you don't plan on charging the big stuff I'd probably just two fairly similar daily drivers since that will probably be the most used board and most likely to get snapped or dinged.

Thanks for the input guys, think I am going to order up the 6'2 and the 6'4. Probably won't be surfing much if anything double overhead+. The 6'4 is double concave and I am actually going to go rounded pin tail, its basically the CI Fort Knox board and the 6'2 is similar to the CI Semi Pro 12. Thanks again guys.
