at Joy division... didn't they break up in 1980? How about New Order The Smiths is an acceptable answer, Morrissey is not (1 album in the late 80s...) How about, Black Flag from My War on , different sound than even Damaged. I think Minor Threat was strictly 80s, maybe very late 70s? too lazy to look it up. I guess Replacement's are pretty 80s... I'll go with them for my final answer for favorite band from 80s.VIDEO

Even earlier - the late 70's. This has got to be one of the best albums of all time. More truly classic songs on this one album than most bands put out in a lifetime, VIDEO

Metallica. Hands down.VIDEO VIDEO I still haven't heard anything from this genre since that comes close to Burton-era Metallica. Not just the music but the lyrical content too. Mustaine gets a lot of credit for those early albums too.

There's lotsa music from back then I still like... but there's only one band I still play on the regular... And it's obviously The Smiths, if you judge everyone's catalogs side by side. So much depressing depressing music mentioned here... Dokken??

Quote: And it's obviously The Smiths Can’t argue with that. The 80’s were bookended with some of the best punk on one end and solid indie like Pavement and the Pixies on the other end. The middle was an abyss. The Smiths were an exception.
