They're putting carbon in weird places but don't offer any explanation of their reasoning.
Whereas most people are riding logs or mini Simmons in knee high junk, these guys get towed in but can do every air. The lengths and thicknesses are comparable to mini sims but thinner and obviously lower volume, especially in the nose.
I thought about tomos after watching this.
One advantage they have is the speed of the boat wake. Way more power in the wake.

It's different wakesurfing a wave of that size vs surfing a real wave. It is more powerful by comparison. The sweet spot is tight but if you have a good surf wake you don't need volume. Besides you don't have to paddle in anyway. Normal surfboards (even small skatey boards) feel cumbersome in the tight curl.

I wonder how well that board would work behind a battle ship with overhead wakes.
I've been riding a 5'8 twinzer with a much thicker tail then most which allows me to stay on top of the water creating a skater glide n flat waves. I'm going down in size to 5'5 but with a more rocket fish but wide look.
Wide short and thick is the way the industry has been moving for years now.
As far as us learning from Wakesurfboards? No but they are from surfboard design.
Looks fun for a while but till I see barrel rides I'll pass. The worst day on a longboard would be more fun to me.

First, it's good to see you posting here, despite the drama on the other thread.
Longboarding is a totally different type of surfing. This type of surfing is more in line with what people are trying to do in modern shortboarding.
Are small-wave boards going to start looking Like this even more, and will they allow for this type of surfing?
I think these are too low volume for the speed required for these airs, but after watching the groms throw air reverses on nothing this past week, I could be wrong.
I noticed the boards have step-deck rails which could be hiding some volume in the deck.
They might be doable for step offs or tow-ats. I've wondered how long it will be before wakeboarders turn tow-ats into the next sport.

It kind of reminds me of a small version of those standing wave machine. A lot of water moving faster then most little waves. To me its a different beast but would be fun behind a bigger boat.
fark yeah! Still got my 5050 Waveskate. Even talked briefly with Ben, who is now in Japan, about getting a board to me. Though its not the easiest or cheapest place to get a board sent from. He is still shaping some very cool, strange, intriguing and interesting looking boards that seem to be working great. He puts up videos on Youtube from time to time of latest projects and a few videos of himself and riders on boards.
Ben is one awesome dude, I kinda miss surfing with a guy as stoked as him... he was cool to me when I was a grom. From the videos it looks like hes doing great

I forgot about these. His outlines look very similar to the shred stixx. Can't believe how thick the tails are. His planer technique is unconventional (one-handed, parallel). People seem to really like his boards.

Years back, before I'd heard that this stuff was going on, I had somebody send me stuff to mill and I'm looking at that the numbers going WTF? Step offs.

Wakeboats usually have approx 500 pounds of ballast on each side plus additional room to add more.. For wakesurfing you empty one side, fill the other, and add even more weight either with bags filled with water, or lead. Makes the boat drive like poop and you have to be careful driving it.
Weighting boats is like a science to get the wake dialed to your liking.

These boards are usually only 3/4 thick and have knife like rails. Hardly enough volume to paddle. The ones I've tried had about 15 litres of volume at most. Weird that it works. Would be fun to try in real waves.

The ShredStixx site says they go from 1 5/8" up to 2 1/8" thick
Volume doesnt matter as much if theres enough speed, look at the skimboard dudes, their boards barely float and are able to catch waves and surf them too

Have any of you seen Stretch's work of art wakeboards? He showed us a wakeboard a couple of weeks ago that was beyond insane. Total custom job; might have weighed in at a whopping 2#(probably less). Amazing.
