Solo is the only way my son has traveled the past 2 decades since High School. Made many friends surfing, crashed at their places, hosted them when they visited the US/CA. Go for it!

pros: people you meet are more open IMO more of an adventure not too many locals want to see 2 or 3 americans paddle out. with just 1 they are pretty cool with it. Cons: can be more expensive depending on who you travel w/ one less jerk around
I have had better trips going solo.

Do it! Pretty much the only way I travel with the exception of an occassional trip with a good surf buddy of mine. Never get irritated, have trouble coming up with a game plan, and you will meet a ton of people in hostels and on your adventures. Looking to do Peru solo this fall!

Great way to travel. I have done a bunch of trips solo and know I have a lot more to come that will be solo. A lot of my trip ideas are difficult to get others on board for, hence I'll just go alone. It is a bit strange and seems weird at first, but once your there you realize its one of the best ways to travel. No BS, no drama, your own schedule, cheaper (if you want it to be), surf where ever you want, no one complains that a wave is to mush, to heavy, ect.
Go for it man. As corny as it sounds, you only live once. If you can pull it and have the time do it there is ZERO reason not to go. Because if you don't your gonna be sitting at home surfing the same poop waves and not getting some good experiences and surfing new places.

Solo is the way of the True Warrior
Before I met my wife, I would always travel solo and it was so much fun. Now I bring my wife, which is still pretty cool since she's used to roughing it in dodgy towns.
But yeah, solo is great. You meet lots of people and surf when and where you want with no conflicts.

did it ALL the time when I was single. puerto rico 2X, SoCal numerous times, Indo for 2 months.
i met tons of people - some here on the BB - as a result of my solo travels. love the flexibility of your schedule. plus - i got to go places that otherwise wouldn't have been an option; no one wants to invite a group of traveling surfers to that secret spot.
loved meeting all the people.
downside is: certain expenses are all yours. nobody can watch your stuff while you suss things out; this was huge in Indo and which is why I ended up be-friending an Aussie who went with me everywhere.
[edit: first PR solo surf trip - i took pity on a NY surfer who had flown into the capital of PR and was wondering how to take a cab to the other side of the island (3-4 drive one way?). offered to give him a ride. he had NO CLUE where to stay, or anything. ended up rooming with him in a dorm room style surf/back-packer place. at the end of the trip, he had to head back to the airport 2 days before i did; turns out he worked for Delta and offered me a free "buddy pass" flying certificate. i used it to fly down to PR 2 weeks later for another surf trip. SCORE!]

Traveling solo is the only way to go. I've been all around the world, much of it traveling solo and have found that leaving the friends and girlfriend behind make for a more rewarding and adventurous experience. I wouldn't have met a lot of great people, experienced some amazing things nor traveled to some unbelievable places had I not chosen to go it alone. Just get out there and do it.

Many surf trips done abroad solo. You get to meet more people it seems, than traveling with a buddy, and definately more than traveling with the wife or girlfriend. Local surfers also tend to be much more accomodating to solo travelers, as you're not a insta-crowd at their spots.
Just show respect, and try to be humble and generous, and you'll be rewarded back in multiples. Gor for it.

Yes. I have done it and enjoyed it. I do remember that it took a few days for me to get adjusted to being on my own. Eventually you are forced to be more outgoing and make some new friends. After you get over that barrier, there is no better way to travel. You do things on your time, your way. You can also meet quite a few girls who will have no expectations from you for any longer than you said you were going to be in town. There is nothing better than a 3 day romance with a foreign beauty. Good times.

Solo is nice. You'll probably end up meeting other people going solo as well, and you can team up with them for part of your trip.
