i'm trying to pinpoint exactly certain design characteristic, that i'd like my next boards to have. 5'11x20 stretch magnet vs 5'11x18.75 lost sub-driver. Is very easy for me to do turns on the wider one. The lost feels stiffer. Is not as easy to wip it around. I appreciate the rail transitions and everything. I feel i pump and gain more speed on the lost, but the stretch is looser i wanna say? WHY IS THAT?? i know the subdrivr is a great board, but it seems im not handling it well i guess. theres gotta be something im doing wrong. i was about to put a real small center fin to see what would happen.
the sub-driver I've ridden did not feel stiff or hard to turn. seemed like it had a nice amount of kick in the tail, a bit of an accelerated flip if my two second inspection was accurate.
maybe try different fins, smaller fins. a smaller center should loosen things up although I'm not generally a fan of too small of a center fin and will usually opt for smaller fins all around if a board feels stiff.
make sure that back foot is over the fin cluster if it's not already.
5'11" x 18.75" seems pretty small, is it possible the board is too small for you?
Stretch uses spherical rocker- the rocker is a piece of a circle, making the board loose. Lost rocker is low in the nose and drivier. Sounds like you want a stretch type rocker with a narrower width.

Isn't that the same as what others call a continuous rocker?

That rocker doesn't look like any shortboard I've seen. But makes a lot of sense, as having it be perfectly continuous would let you keep something constant while focusing on other design elements to keep the board balanced. Would probably smooth out the whole board too.

are you talking rail rocker or stringerline? stringerline may be much straighter depending on depth of concave.

Rail rocker specifically, at least based on looking at the pics on his website.

yeah that's what I'm figuring. interesting about using spherical rocker = wider sweet spot depending in how he does/distributes his concave.

Thats what mb suggested. Im 5'9x163 pounds. It seems, and i mean i love the buoyancy on that board. I think the dims are spot on. I have read about the necesity of putting your foot back on this board. I think I have to focus on that, since i tend to paddle more towards the front of the board and then, when i stand up, im like a little forward.

This is something i was confused about as well. According to the guys at stretch, the magnet (i bought mine like 2-3 years ago) has a more relaxed rocker. I dont know if at the time, stretch was already on those spherical rockers. And according to the lost guys, the subdrivr has a healthy nose rocker, but low tail rocker. I think im sensitive here to the tail and rail rocker maybe?

He talks about all of it in this video. He says 3 types historically: spherical, parabolic (continuous with accelerating nose kick), and 3 stage.
I had a Wave Magnet before, it was a quad. Very fast and loose. If your Sub Driver is a thruster that could be the difference. Quads and thrusters ride a little different. The Stretch was a bat tail and the tail width was very wide. Good board well made. I started coming down in volume so I ended up selling it after a year. There were some dings and some foot wells but the board held up great after a summer of riding it almost every day.

yeah the sub driver really needs your foot back over the fin cluster. i think it's a combination of low stringerline tail rocker and a little accelerated rail rocker right at / behind the front 2 fins. pretty much gotta turn it off the curvy rail rocker and that double concave. when i watch the pros it almost seems like they're surfing strictly off the back 1/2 of the board... i only got a chance to ride my sub driver 2x before i got injured but i had a problem getting far enough back too. i wasn't used to having the front 1/2 and nose stay so far out of the water.
i'm guessing if you shift your stance back and put your back foot all the way back you'll realize the board is actually ultra sensitive. you might want to try and dial it in on slightly smaller days.. it's a smaller wave board.
hopefully this helps and isn't completely off base

would it also depend on the thickness? His boards seem to pack in more volume as he usually has a fuller rail, at least to me. Prolly something in the 25-26L range?

No, they are both thrusters. My magnet is what they called a "magnetized rat-skate," with a swallow tail (wider outline all around). Anyone of my frineds who has tried it asks me if i wanna sell it to them.

thanks a lot, I think this is def gonna help me a lot. Im not use to riding with half of the board in front of me as well. Gonna have to keep that in mind. Im also gonna take a real close look at it, to see the rail rocker u were talking about. I guess thats why it says on the site that the board is for more advanced surfers. The dims are 5'11x18 3/4x2 3/8s. I'd say it floats a lot.
