If you are looking for a small wave board, check out the FCD Quark. I have one and love it for small gutless waves. Plus, his boards are incredibly durable.

Yeah, the Pod doesn't strike me as anything revolutionary. Just a board that works well in the smaller stuff. Catches lots of waves. Glides over flat spots. All that fishy / wide outline stuff. And then surfs off the tail like a shortboard. Super fun board, responsive and easy peasy up to HH+, at which point its strengths start to become weaknesses.

agree on the wave skate part. its not the retro fishy fat crutch board i see many dudes riding i surfed it at the demo, and was blown away by how hard you could surf it. catch anything that moved and do real man-turns, not skatey flicks, and could still do the tricks when needed. for those who want a fatty small wave board i don't think this is it, but if you want to rip in small waves then could be the one

How accurate is the whole 'ride this 8" shorter than your regular board" thing ?

like. 6" shorter than shortboard/standard dims is better if you're a bad paddler like me. smooth, precise turns...I like it as much as my hynson black knight quad. for reference. I'm 5'8" and 170 lbs and ride a 5'8" x 20 x 2.3/8 XTR pod, thruster. hope this helps.

i'm 5'8" 170lbs and sold a lost rnf that was 5'8" x 20" x 2 3/8" XTR because it was too stiff.
ride a 5'4" x 19 3/8" x 2 3/16" and it goes way better

Sure, but there's a world of difference between the ...Lost RNF and the CI Pod. I wouldn't use one as a direct reference for sizing the other.

you may be right but Lost recommends 6-8" shorter for there RNF and it worked for me. CI recommends 8" shorter

How does the Pod differ from the RNF surfing wise? I know it's probably apples and oranges but I've had a couple of RNFs that I've liked a lot ridden as pure twin fins but I'm thinking I might want something more thrustery and performance oriented. I love the RNF for down the line speed and cutbacks but it doesn't really want to square off and go vertical. I find it actually works better on bigger surf despite the small wave look of it. It really thrives when you have a wall to race.

I've had a 5'5 RNF quad and really had a blast with it. My dd now is a 5'6 Pod quad and it's been a magic board for me. I've cycled thru several other shortboards since then (including the New Toy) and nothing has come close. The one thing I changed on the Pod was swapping the AM1/GX fins for a PC3 quad set. Haven't looked back since. As far as height/length, I think 6-8" is about right, depending on your paddling/skill level. My regular shortboards are 5'10-6'0, and I probably could've taken the Pod down to 5'4-5'5 pretty easily.

Not at all. I believe all boards that are sold in the US are made in Santa Barbara (minus any surftechs still floating around). I got this straight from the marketing director. I used to ride mainly CI's about 6 years ago, but stopped due to them shipping contracts overseas. Now they supposedly have come full circle and everything is being done in-house in Santa Barbara.
As for the Pod, I bought a used one about 6 months ago. It is a good all around board, but definately not a mush buster like a Fish can be. I have been riding mine with the Future Twin Fins and the small trailer on smaller days. Days when I didn't bring my Fish cause I thought their was gonna be waves. Definately a good board to have in a quiver cause it covers a broad spectrum of wave conditions. I'm 5'8 and 165 and bought a 5'10. It rides great but If I had to do it all over again, I'd get a 5'8. The 5'10 I bought happened to be a real good deal, so I figured I'd pick it up. Overall I'm glad that I did. I've had it in overhead surf and the thing caught waves effortlessly and performed extremely well. I grew up on thrusters, but actually hadn't ridden one in a few years. It was an extremely refreshing experience to ride one in good waves. Something nice about the control of speed and pivot. I think most moderate level surfers would do themselves a great service by riding boards like the pod, instead of trying to ride boards like the pro's ride in contests.

All boards for North America, Latin America, Japan are made right here in Santa Barbara / Carpinteria. About 1.5 miles from Rincon.
For the knit-pickers, yes some may go south or north for glassing.
Sorry had to chime in on that remark.

I got one. I am 6'2" and 200lbs - went 6" shorter than my normal board - so 5'10" * 201/4" * 2 3/8" stock board. Super fun board under chest high - fast and loose. Over chest hight the width and thickness become a real drag and I find myself constantly adjusting for the board. I think the 8" thing is preety accurate - I definitely could have got the 5'8" - beleive me - these things are volume machines
