I've spent the last few afternoons down at Last Resorts (Bakersfield-by-the-Sea) being a guinea pig/test pilot on a new kind of board. Its one of those deals where i don't know really how its supposed to work, so it takes some time to play around and feel it out.
The best thing to do in that situation, I find, is to just forget about the board and go surfing, and at the end of the session, ask myself, well, did it light up in any unique and special way? Is it an improvement? a step back? Does it feel good? Am I happy with it?
And, today, I'd have to say "yeah..I'm stoked!"..even in total crap surf I was able to put together a fun session, and am eager to try it in something better.
What adds some interest to this is that two of the three prototypes that I built are presently on the other side of the planet, in the possession of a much better surfer than me, awaiting a swell at a place that should yield some great feedback.

it may seem useless now...but this thread will make your head explode when pictures do appear...........

Easy on there Allan, OscarMeyer there is a fully fledged surf god/ shaper /pro. Theres nuttin better than seeing someone drop in with a hyped rehashed design when they dont actually live it.
I am however looking forward to seeing your boards, are they just your design or is it a collaboration with other shapers ? I liked the peanut shaped foam one you showed on Sways a while back !

That would be the LATE Oscar Meyer. .
Actually I think that peanut-ty thing is kind of cool, in a ridiculous sort of way (or vice-versa).
Basically, though, there're designs that work really well, and we all know what they are...its the other stuff- the way outside the box stuff- that's interesting to me as a designer. You don't really know unless you try it.
ps...for what its worth, i shaped (EPS) and did the tooling for the "dash dogs" (and some other components) for the latest incarnation of the w-mobile. Fun stuff!
