You don't really need to know how tall Kolohe is to size one of these up. Here's the sizing from the Lost site, "Ride about 2" shorter 1/8" thinner and 1/4" wider than an F1 or Whiplash type short board." The F1 & Whiplash being standard high performance shortboards.

Yeah, saw that, but since the board is essentially Kolohe's "pro model" I'd like to know his height in relation to the Scorcher he's riding (which is a 5'8, i think)
Lotta shapers these days saying "order x inches shorter than your shortboard" which is really ambiguous.
For instance, one guy who's 5'9 could be riding a DD standard thruster that's 6'0, while another guy who's the same height rides a 5'8. So you're basically gonna have a 4 inch discrepancy in dims, which makes a ton of difference in whether or not a board actually works.
Makes much more sense to draw standard dims off the height of the guy for who it was originally designed say "order x inches shorter than your height" etc.
Sorry to rant, just my 2 cents.

I'm sure the size guide is for "average" surfers if your' going to size up according to how tall Andino is your gonna get pissed cuz he's like a pro who rips so I'm sure he rides his boards way smaller then they are intended to be for the average surfer, I doubt the scorcher he rides is what you get on the shelf I'm sure it's more foiled. It's like me riding a 5'2" 18 .5 rocket at 5'9" way to small for an average surfer like me, but a pro like beschen is riding that no problem
can't ride what the pros ride ur not a friggin pro

If only you knew. Thanks for your expert assessment of my abilities.
FYI at 5'8 my first WD was a 5'5. Felt I could go shorter so I got my hands on a 5'2. No problem for this average surfer. Does that make me a pro?

heres what MAYHEM posted before;
Kolohes quicer...
5'10 18.38 2.13 round or narrow squash tail SD3 or F1Stubs for travel.
5'9 18.38 2.13 , wide squash tail Scorchers and a couple SD2s here n there...allways with a deep vee out the back.
5'8 18.50 2.13 Scorcher (same exact design as the 5'9)
5'6 (and now a 5'7) 18.75 2.13 SUB. The subs have a shallower concave , which makes the rail rocker strater and also heklps make the wide platform roll rail to rail easier.

To me, Kolohe doesn't look that tall of a kid. He doesn't appear to be taller than 5'8" and he's quite skinny. The boards listed in his usual quiver, I could ride, and I'm sure I'm way heavier than the kid. Of course his boards will be a bit thin for my weight, but I would be able to ride them without too much difficulty.

Being "Pro" doesn't necessarily mean you surf better than an amateur surfer, it means you took money for a win at a contest you and now compete against the "pros" from now on. There are a few amateur surfers here in jax that consistently place higher than some of the pros on the tour at events. Jus sayin...

The last time we mesaurd him, he was 5'9.5. I think hes really close to 5'10 now. His 5'9"s will be 5'9.5 starting this week. Instead of going thicker, we have made the rails a bit fuller out to the perimeter. His shoulders are quite broad, hes not "skinny", but actually pretty strong, with a broad chest. I would guess he is 148lbs He pushes harder and uses more power than most guys who are 50% heavier than him.
His boards have a very drivey tail rocker and a wide tail block, the nose is wider as well, so that is why , if you have been riding a typical looking (is there anymore?) shortboard (say somthing like a JS Pro model or CI MBM/Rookie/Proton or Lost F1/Whiplash...) somthing that , I would recomend going an inch or two shorter , or else its gonna feel BIG.

Dude, WTF is your problem? I'm tying to get a good idea of how a non-traditional shortboard is sized before I plop down the cash and end up with something too small or too big. You come on here and start blabbering that because I'm asking questions, I'm ordering my boards out of the range of my ability. You're a f*cking weirdo. Take you negativity someplace else.

i know this is a old thread but does anyone know what the size and more importantly volume is of kohole's sub's he's riding?.. just asking bc of my debate on whether to get a stock 5'8 or 5"10 sub in fst.. i don't want to try riding a similiar volume to his being that he's lighter and a lot better surfer then I. thanks

Actually I just saw him yesterday. I'm 6'3" so I can only gauge off my own height. After talking to him in line at Pedros Tacos I'd say he's at least 6'8".

5'10 19.00 2.25
He rides them longer, narrower and thinner.
Edit: Scrap that, 510 18.88 2.25 From Matt's blog. He says KA rides them closer to Scorcher dims than Sub.

lost posts CL meausurments on most of their boards, I really think that takes the guess work of "hows it gonna float me" out of variable dims from model to model.
I just google'd for about 15min trying to find the equation that I've used to approximate your cubic volume # but I cannot find it again.. anyone?
from Matt: There’s a magic number and it’s called your cubic volume. It’s up to us shapers to educate people, and it’s information available, right now, on our shaping machines. Let me explain. One of my team riders, Shea Lopez, was teasing me about how big my boards are. We were down at Lowers, two fat cocktails in hand, and he grabbed my board and said, “Have a ***** look at this boat!” And, I said: “Well, I’m fat, I’m 40, but you know what, *****? I bet my volume-to-weight ratio is not far from your’s. I’m 30 per cent heavier and have maybe 30 per cent more volume. The difference is, I’m a desk jockey and you’re a professional athlete.” If we know our cubic volumes, all the other dimensions can be left to the shaper. Instead of saying, I ride 6’1”s x 18 5/8” x 2 5/16”, you’d say, I’m a 42, make me a small-wave craft.

Kolohe rides very high volume relative to other pro's. His boards aren't too far off volume wise from the otr/stock boards. I'm over 40 and heavier then KA, and I could ride (most of) his boards no problem.

Weight in kg x 0.35 seems to work pretty well.

Which is probably 25.5-26 L KA's about 5'10" about 155lbs. (Might be a bit more now as he's still growing) Which is a ratio of: 0.365-0.37

FYI:
The scorcher is an incredible performance board. I love the shape and it's so quick under your feet. Really responsive and this is the board you want to have if you are surfing regularly and on top of your game. Not sure but I bought mine small and I still like it.
I'm 5 11 190 pounds and board is 6 1 18.88 2.32
If I had to custom order it, I would go 6 1 19.25 2.5
Hope this helps. You can surf this board with confidence if the waves are going off.
