Raising Arizona? Yes. Con Air? Not so much. He had a two headed snake as a body guard in New Orleans, and eats meat of the animals that he thinks have proper sexual couplings. Fish and fowl, he eats. Pigs, not on Nic's menu. They fornicate dirty. Dudes a bit touched in the head. Eccentrics are fun.

I thought Birdy was pretty good. Raising Arizona is probably his masterpiece. Racing with the Moon was low key, but good as well. Leaving Las Vegas and Matchstick Men weren't bad. Bringing Out the Dead the strange.
Seems to me though that he's become a typecast character.

If there are others I haven't seen them.

saw him at a party on a balcony perched over bourbon st. during the mardis gras he was designated the MC over (~04?).
his face was freakishly yellow and sweaty and he was talking very quickly, yet those around him were paying no attention.
amazing range as an actor. by that i mean that he is either amusingly decent or wincingly horrible.

Face Off and the Rock were two of the worst films that I've ever been badgered into seeing. Thought he was ok in Matchstick Men and Adaptation, but ever since Leaving Las Vegas, he has changed and will never get back to Raising Arizona / Racing with the Moon / Valley Girl / Honeymoon in Vegas form. He seems to have an heir of self-importance, and his speech seems to have changed - or maybe it's the giant veneers and horrible hair. I don't know.

No. I have a hard time with such bad titles. There were moments in Matchstick Men where he seemed to be in younger/funnier form. I also have a really hard time with two members of New Order naming their new band "Bad Lieutenant", although the music is actually pretty good.

You should. It's completely WHACK. The movie is not that great (Herzog) but Cage is off the dial.

Oddly enough, "Bad Lieutenant" arrived in the mail yesterday.
It was okay. I remember the Harvey Keitel version being much grittier and more intense.
Cage can be entertaining to watch (Adaptation), but in most movies that I've seen him in, he seems computer-generated- there's no feeling that there's a real person behind it all. Kind of like Tom Cruise, in that way.

Yeah, no comparison.
The two are really sort of incomparable. The Ferrara version is about the possibility of spiritual and therefore moral redemption through Catholicism. The Herzog version shows a world without any real spiritual and moral consequences, a world in which chance is the only deciding factor and the laws of men the only ones acknowledged.

Cage used to own this property in Newport Beach, along with numerous other luxury estates around the country/world.
Now he is broke, and owes the federal government millions of dollars in unpaid taxes.
He is a dumbass.

Sadly, I think the worst movie he's made was Windtalkers. Seemed like he wasn't really interested in acting, but was paid more just to be a big name. Of course, compared to the other war movies (A Thin Red Line, Saving Private Ryan), this one was crap anyway.

From the first scene of the snake swimming through the floodwaters to the scenes with iguanas and gators, it seemed that Herzog was coming close to self-parody (the whole "obscenity of the jungle" schtick).
