So I went surfing at T******* about a week ago, figured I'd wear no booties since water is pretty warm.
Result is two gouges in my front foot, both 1/4" wide and 3/16" deep or so. Was bleeding a lot, thankfully some nice folks @ the beach helped me stop it.
Have kept them wrapped up in bandages with some antibacterial stuff that feels like vaseline, and been out of the water since then.
Now my heel ***** hurts from me having to walk on it. Anything I can do for that? Should I just man up until the wounds heal?

that doesn't sound good. is it inflamed? are there red streaks near it?
I recently gouged a piece of skin off my big toe nearly to the bone. I stayed out of the water for 2.5 weeks since there's lots of bacteria in there. staph is another concern.
good luck and heal up soon!

Pretty good sized gouges. Infection should be your primary concern since it doesn't sound like a tendon or one of the many bones in the foot was damaged. If you can beg, borrow, etc., a crutch to help keep pressure off the wound it may help the healing process. Elevating the foot (higher than your heart) when resting/sleeping may help with the pain/pressure.
As stated above, red streaks may indicate blood poisoning or infection. Reddness that extends away from the cuts may indicate infection. You would do yourself a favor if you visit a doc and get a pro opinion. There may be a need for antibiotics that are more powerful than the typical hydrogen peroxide and bacitracin salves. Staff on your heal/foot bottom is the last place you want to get the gnar if you want to get back in the water in a few weeks. G'luck with recovery.

Everyone here is pretty much right. Keep it clean, dry, open to the air and elevated. That might take a few days. At work and on your feet is no way for that sucker to heal. Ocean wounds tend to be poly-microbial. Not just staphylococcus but lots of other nasty bugs too like vibrio etc.
Red, hot, swollen, pus...go to a doctor ASAP!

I've been redoing the bandages every single day since then. No infection thank goodness, hopefully won't happen.
The gouges are both near my big toe, so I can walk well enough using the rest of the foot. I've had heel pain though, but it's gotten better past few days, maybe because I haven't had to walk as much as before.

Could be the change in walking dynamics. I once cut my foot at Trestles and it took 6 weeks to heal. Still have the scars.
