Hey all, Looking to celebrate my 40th somewhere warm with some nice loooong lefts. Nothing super critical, just some fun playful lefts. Any thoughts on where to go in May-June? Thanks!

the key questions you need to provide answers to are: 1. Where are you located? 2. How long (total time) do you have for this trip? 3. What is your budget?
Without knowing any of the above, I would go to either the Mentawais, Bali (including G-land, Desert Point) OR Peru

My picks in Indo would be:
T-land (nemberala) in Rote east indonesia is a long playful left with a few different range of accomadation options.
Karang nyimbour/ujung bocur near Krui in South Sumatra is also a long playful left, with lots of mid range to cheap accomadation options.
Both waves are fairly consitent at that time of year and have a fair few other waves nearby, rights and lefts and lots of culture, id steer towards T-land, possibly bit more mellow more of a cruiser vibe, but both waves aren't really barrels, better to hit may than june for less crowds and lighter offshores.

Thanks. Located in NY. I have about 10 days. Budget is about 2,000-3,000.

may-june is fall-winter here, the far north of peru is tropical but surf season is dec-march, Lobitos would work though, further down pacasmayo, chicama, huanchaco work all year, here in central Peru, south of Lima is when our bigger swell season starts, in our winter we get bigger swells more often, it doesn't get extremely cold, low 60's air, water mid 60's coldest, but surf everyday for sure all year round, it could be cheaper than a quarter of your budget for the 10 days.

i think checking out Peru would be a pretty interesting option. i've never stayed at BSC's place but maybe inquire further about surf options given that time of year (see his post above). you might be able to get a direct flight from NYC to Lima, Peru (and then have to take another flight or a long drive to the coast). I'm guessing your flight might be around $800 round trip (give or take $150).

I'd think Peru or Chile. Peru has crazy long lefts, although the northern area can be a bit fickle (which I experienced when we got fairly skunked there a couple years ago). The potential is mind-blowing though. Chile has many lefts that are just retarded, albeit much colder. BSC says it over and over again, his area has tons of surf year-round with tons of variety (beachbreak, reef, point) within either walking distance or a cheap cab ride. Great option for a CHEAP trip with high payoff. I'll go back there at some point.

Sinaloa. Killer setup, although we scored it (I think) with about as much swell as you can...making it a better wave than I bet it probably is normally. Either way, 600 yd. lefts and warm water. PM or email me if you want more info on that one.
