Gonna combine a 3 fin bonzer set up on a mini simms. Put these together and this will give you an idea.

Wouldn't something like these be close?

Love the idea of a bonzer mini Simmons. Wouldn't it be like a stubby hull tri fin?

maybe it's just the angle of the pic, but the side fins on the cole seem to have less cant than a normal bonzer 5.

idea makes sense.....super short andstubby with wide tail to satiate the complaints about bonzers having no release....short rail line and wide tail livens up some of that negativity. as gws said....the setup holds down design, adn the design, makgin quick spee,d really feeds into the fin and bottom setup to bring out its qualitties

Of course people are working on it and in no way is it an original idea, but we are trying something that is just different. I had a 5'4" Bumble Bee and it was great, of course, but limited. With a variation of the concaves, rocker, and the tail shape, our little ride is also going to use new fins in different places than what is usual on a CB Bonzer. Better? Who knows? Different? Yes. Will it work? That's why we call it an experiment. Think 5'0" round tail Mini Simms, Hull like s deck, more tail rocker, 4 custom side runners, basically the same size, placed slightly in, a smaller middle fin, with the option of the 3 fin runners also available. Or it can be ridden as a single fin, or a quad, or a 5 fin. The possibilities are endless.

I have something drawn up that isn't a Bonzer. It's not a thruster either. It's either the Thronzer or the Bonzster.

patent pending.

And I know I am going to get heat for this, but I have never seen ANYONE surf a "mini Simmons" that didn't surf worse on the MS than they did on a regular HPSB type board. (Whatever that is) They feel fun, and cool, but your surfing kind of suffers IMO.

I wonder how that'd work with a big center fin? The whole fun thing about these boards (for me anyway) is that they have a controlled outta control kinda feel. The center fin would definitely change that feel. Like B5 said, "New Experiment".

Incorrect. Kenvin rips the hell out of any board he rides. The best board, performance wise, at the last AB3 for me was a 6'1" Simms quad, I think made by Hank Warner. According to some, Bonzers aren't HPSB's, but tell that to Knox, Fanning, and all of the guys who absolutely kill it on them. It's all what feels good to the rider, not the opinion of some who think they know what feels good to you. Don't take it serious. Isn't this supposed to be fun?

Endless Names have ripped on Non User Friendly Designs Forever. Rider validation is not what makes boards work well. Fun designs but limited in how they ride for the normal guy. Many worth owning for their unique feel.

They're nice in very small surf that a normal HPSB type board, even a White Diamond-type shape won't go in. Any other surf, I agree.

When I think of user-friendly boards I don't necessarily equate ease of use with most fun. When I think of high performance boards I don't necessarily think of easy to use.
I think if we look at our surfing as consisting of a block of time one of these niche boards might fill an open corner of it left over from the 2 or 3 other boards that fill the majority of it. Different strokes.

I tend to agree with this and I think I fall into that group, particularly when I go frontside. If I slow down and not try to surf my mini-sim like a HPSB then I think it’s probably not as ugly. But, I only surf mine in waves that you can’t, unless you’re a top level guy, ‘rip’ anyway. For me it’s an alternative to longboarding. Besides, they’re not meant to be surfed like a HPSB, are they?
I’ve had about 30-40 session on my Ghostbuster now and love it, but I’m thinking for my next micro wave board I want something a bit more narrow so it’s easier to go rail to rail.

I may have had a jump start. I was ruining my brain in that house on the point. Coulda swore he shaped those little things. Oh well. It wasn't Cino and it sure as hell wasn't Bradshaw. Maybe those were some Japanese imports from Fred? Who was Mickeys shaper? That 'Speed by Dan" guy? Was that him, Dan? I have lost a lot of pics and memories of my life on the rock.

because of this thread and an order i got i installed a single box on the 5´6 asymetric i posted recently and surfed yesterday in knee to hips high onshore as 2+1 in a small left running against the rip. it feels much smoother, turn tighter than the quad. ...for everybody that like to have fun in minni surf but doesn´t like the feel of the simmons ...yep this could be it. in fast down the line surf i might switch back but not even sure about this...Winner saludos

Dan was a friend. We had fun times . At this time he shaped in one of his bedrooms at the house Eddie rented him just below his on the hillside of sunset. He passed away about 10 years later where he rented from my friend Roger a motorcycle painter up on Pupukea .
You can just look at that pic of Mickey and imagine the times Brandon was having with him. Just after Brandons stay Mickey teamed up with Max Medeiros at pipe and were given the name Mental and Madness. Quicksilver put Mickey in charge of Strider on the North Shore and he was pleading mercy.
The blond in the jeep is from the Squidy thread .

Just a little reminder re this whole short, round and Bonzer thing...

It's kind of how the whole Bonzer thing started. I keep telling you guys, it's the best combo since chocolate and peanut butter. Beer and nachos? Hookers and blow. Kidding. Whatever. Just Be Mindful of where and how a lot of this started.

Tri fins were lots of fun thru the 70's as well. Most stopped making them after 1973. Bonzer design was much bigger and has lasted.
