I thought $60 for a pair was crazy last year at my surf shop. Then I see ads selling board shorts for up to $150. Maybe by 2013 they'll be going for $200 to $250? I mean I'm all for the new technology they put into the material and product but damn. Are they using poop from NASA? I think I'm going to be trunking it in a pair of gym shorts from Dollar General next time I go to buy.

Who the phuck changed shorts or trunks to board shorts? There so plucking long now days they should be called Peddle pushers or Bermuda shorts. And what the puck are Bermuda shorts? Are they made in Bermuda and worn in Bermuda only? Do you get to wear them on "Bermuda Day" and Board Shorts on Board Short Day?
Do you wear board shorts with your New Wavejet or do you have to go out and buy Wavejet shorts? Or are they Wavejet board shorts now?
Phucking Cali homo's couldn't leave well enough alone and have simplicity in surfing like it was!
And don't even get me started on wave jet peddle pushing bermuda board short Wedgies ....

oh yeah ... I get free bong bongs ... once a year.

I think $14-$17 at Marshall's is pretty good. But then again, I don't care about this season, last season or any season for that matter.

The high prices are a product of over design and embellishment.
A complex math equation would need to include: The material per yard (esp. 4 way stretch.) The Art printed on the fabric... both from "printing" and the cost of the original art. The branding from custom eyelits, drawstrings and labels. The 6 figure "designer" designing, the pattern makers, fit models... Put all that together with the sewing, shipping to the domestic DC. Don't forget the marketing behind the boardshort. Plus a % of sales if its a signature model to the team rider.
Add all that up and then double that wholesale cost and their you land at the $70+ boardshort.
Killerdana sells private label solid colored 4 way stretch (overage yardage from the Oniell boardies) for around $40... No bells and whistles... great for surfing

i hear oneill is the most wasteful surf company when it comes to materials. good for killer dana to capitalize on that.

Check 6PM. I believe the site is the clearance for Zappo's. Up to 70% off and free shipping. Billabong, Quik, O'Neill, Body Glove, etc. Not all sizes, but a pretty great place to start your search for new boardies.

return shipping to them is EXPENSIVE if you got to ship a box. they're in some ***** location in KY or something like that so returns suck. tried to get some shoes and jeans from them. didn't like 'em and had to pay nearly $20 in shipping. but one cool feature they do have is video examples of stuff. i use their videos to gauge listings on whiskey and other sights for stuff like goggles and sunglasses.

He's got the idea. My wife visits Target in Ventura about every 3-4 months and always finds great deals on Redsand, Hurley, O'Niell and lots of others in the $15-20 range, I'm sure they are discontinued models but that's fine with me. Just got the new ing mag and christ, the last 1/3 of the mag is nothing but overpriced, ugly "shorts" or "longs", whatever you want to call them. Before wifey it was a trip to the thrift store, you'd be surprised how many really nice trunks that can be found for $3-$5

Killer Dana and Whiskey Militia. I don't think I've ever paid over $30 for a pair of shorts. I caught the Killer Dana 4 way stretch on sale a few years back. Great shorts for the money.

With 3 kids, I just fancy the idea of being able to purchase trunks once again. I'm still sporting some of the same trunks I owned before I had kids.

cause they don't get used in the ocean. doesn't get truckable for you unless going to longboard. even then sometimes it's balls freezing cold in trucks. i've got lots of trunks from years ago that i wear in the summer rather than shorts. in our area only one pair is needed to surf in.

Exactly. With the exception of the quick road trips down south a couple times during summer, I surf all summer in a 2mm.
Maybe this summer we will get lucky and I can trunk it. Not right now... 51 friggin degrees. Kinda chilly.

A friend of mine likes to thrift shop and got me a few pairs of Quicksilver boardshorts in my size...$3 bucks per pair!! Perfectly good, just wash them first to play it safe. Otherwise get them for no less than $20 as above. Pricing has gone completely out of control now by greedy surf companies outsourcing all of their manufacturing in Asia further hurting the American economy. They never did anything to help me and I won't partake in their greedy hype. It is all a scam fashion show to conform...something I will never do!

Or how bout the biggest FARCE in boardshort history - the stretchy so-called QUICK DRY crap?
Stuff takes waaay longer to dry than a regular boardshort. Stays moist like pussy.

quiksilver.com has the 4way stretch diamond dobby for 25-30 bucks+free shipping. they dont have the freshest designs but thats all i wear now those things are super duper comfy to cruise in. super stretchy, they breath good, almost like wearing bball shorts. pocket isnt too small so you can hold anything from huge wads of singles for femme nu, or a slice of pizza from costco. perfect length for me too(22' no daisy dukes) in the the water, no rash, and they dry pretty quick too. im tall so hurley and billabongs always fit weird, are too short and like a sauna for my ballssack, dont breathe. oneills fabric is cherry but the fit is inconsistent. volcoms are alright. mirages are sick but rip curl makes most of them in a 21' but i can kinda stretch them out. but yea quiksilver diamond dobby 4way stretch are solid. cop those

Boardshorts. Haha. Nah not around here. No Way!
But for surf trips, lap swimming, and summer river chillin I'm with the majority here, Nordy's Rack or Marshals 20-30 bones.
I will admit thou, I recently spent 50 bones on some of those 4 way stretchey MoFo's and honestly they are like nothing I have ever owned. Ultra lightweight, stretchy, and super comfy. Almost feel nekid. So there have been some technical innovations made in the last few years. Surprisingly.

Ya the Lost bottle rocket shorts I bought last year are the best board shorts I've ever had. Light, stretchy, felt like I was almost wearing nothing. I'm just going to wear them until they rot off my body.

I don't even like most of the new trunks the brands come out with. Too light of material IMO. I like it a little thicker so my white thighs don't show when they ride up the leg.
I have a couple pair of older Katin trunks that are awesome.
But yeah, like everyone said, TJ Maxx, Marshalls is the cheap place to get them.
