Im looking at a board for medium sized steep hollow waves ( Im 175lb & 6 foot) I have narrowed it done to either the Fred Rubble or the Sub Driver. Can anyone weigh in and recommend either of these boards????......cheers

Seems like those Fred's work really well as rounded pins, at least under the right feet.

Love the rubble, but agree with AJ works better in good surf and great in hollow surf for me. I got a sub driver coming this week so I could have a good comparrison for you by end of the week. I do know a guy who had both and now has his rubble up for sale, but who knows.

I'm not an expert on sub drivers but I did have a fred rubble and my impression is that a sub driver is more grovel oriented and the fred more of a mid range short board. And on that note, I found that it worked well in hh - under good beach break and wasn't much of a groveler. I think a more reasonable comparison would be a driver.

You should take a look at the Mini Driver.
Felt one up in a shop last week and I really like the design for the exact type of wave you mention.

mini driver LOVES these sorts of wavers.
go small, they pack LOTS of volume.

Agreed that you should look at reg driver for steep hollow waves . Has more nose rocker ... The sub-driver is for softer waist-chest high waves more grovel. As far as the difference between rubble vs -driver ? They have similar outlines but two different rockers and concaves . Two completely different boards .

Do the Subdrivers pack a lot of volume into them?

Yes,,,im 5'9 and 168 pounds,,mine is 5'11x18 3/4x2 3/8s and floats just right for me. (meaning it floats a LoT!) Used it yesterday in 3-4ft beachbreak and went amazing.
