I want a machine on which I can design fins the same way I can design surfboards. Load a panel of G10 into the machine and cut my custom fins. I want AKU shaper for fins.

Every surfer could have his own custom fin files. It's doable. Mock them up on-screen, load the material and cut the mothers. Incremental tweaks. I've had enough surfboards I thought were zeros turned into heros by a very small change in fins (or even smaller change in fin position) to make a believer out of me. It's going to happen. Just a matter of time.

Theres a thread on sways about this, however the program is still quite incomplete and sometimes incompatible... but then your dream is closer

Greg, do you get any of your fins CNC cut?
I would imagine it would be similar to doing a board, get it 70-80% of the way there, then hand finish to remove the tooling marks. Seems like it'd take WAY too many passes to get a finished fin straight out of the fixture. Especially having to do 3 (to 5) of them per board. Seems like it just wouldn't be cost effective.

you could do some serious damage with that machine GG
Fins Unlimited - have 2 sets, 4 fins, extremely precise is all I can say

Try Hanalei Fin Systems, based out of Hawaii. The guy who makes them is Robin Mair, top class guy and really helpful, will get back to you quickly. He's a good shaper too. They mainly do quads and single fins, but I'm sure he'll cook up a thruster set if that's what you want.

Me and my friend/business partner made these in a day.
Quote:

A laser scanner, and a CNC 3 axis mill is all it took to make these. After the perfect fin is made, you can get a mold made, like GG did in San Jose, Ca., and then it's pennies compared to dollars for a full set in say, G10, fiberglass, whatever. Don't know if GG still has his molded or not, though. I almost did them for him, but we disagreed somewhere. Oh well. We have used 304 Stainless Steel for Stretch Tow In fins, both polished and with a #4 finish, and a recycled material from a guy in Florida that is pretty damn insane. Here is the polished one.
Quote:
We now have a 5 axis machine and although we haven't used it for fins yet, it's going to be insane. We have moved past the fin stuff to do propellers and other very complicated stuff, like this. Quote:

Those factory photos in your link really expounds the "soul" in board building... But on the other hand don't many of the primary finmakers outsource their fin manufacturing to Asia (excluding AUS & NZ) this includes longboard fins, too. Some Rainbows, True Ames, all FCS and Future.
I think just Larry Allison, Robin Mair, Halcyon and Island Fin Design do them in-house in the US. Maybe Bahne/Fins Unltd , too.

Our machine has a tool changer, and the tooling to make that right there is complicated. The main tool is a drill bit to get most of the metal out of the way. Speed and feed is the name of the game when using CAD, CNC, and the like. Too fast, too slow, and you melt, break, or ruin a lot of tools. The stock sometimes isn't that cheap, either. Spindle speed is rule #1.
I'll post up the $4,200.00 mistake we did on an impeller. That was not a good day.

OMG.
And I thought I was having a bad day when I toasted an 113DG (with a huge stick of wood in it) during a run of very similarly named Mavs gun files. Put the wrong bottom on the wrong top. I saw it coming, and hit the big red kill switch as the blade started to drop about a foot and a half ahead of where it should have gone for the tail cut off. There's a slight delay between the pushing of the panic stop and an actual stop. Too little, too late.
