Man... Roy is gonna be pisssed when he realizes one of his favorite boards was stolen.

And who the heck were they interviewing? The voice was ringing a bell with me the entire time... it was towards the end of the interview when it hit me. The english teacher from Beavis and Butthead. The guy with the kids... he sounded just like that hippie teacher in Beavis and Butthead.

Seen a fair amount of Japanese insulation washing up over on the coast the last month or so. Next few years should be interesting.

SURFERS ARE THEE CANARIE IN THE COAL MINE [Re: r32]
      #2322544 - 06/06/12 07:43 PM

the following is 'cut'n'paste' I posted on the political forum
click to read the whole piece:glow in the dark

.........."And there has been silence from our mainstream media, for which the depths of depravity are so severe I will devote an entire article just to the “why” at a future time.

But back to the research: reports in the past week indicate the pollen in southern California is radioactive now too, and it is flying around, and if you live there and go outside, you are breathing it in. And so are your children.

Along with fission products blowing over from Japan. And radiation in your drinking water. And in your rain. And in the fish you are eating. And your vegetables. And the milk supply. And its happening every second, of every day. For 13 months. Are you starting to see a problem here?

Problem is, that’s not even the biggest problem. The biggest problem is what Senator Wyden is all bent out of shape about, even though independent researchers and nuke experts have been warning about this for a year.

And that is that the Reactor #4 building is on the verge of collapsing. Seismicity standards rate the building at a zero, meaning even a small earthquake could send it into a heap of rubble. And sitting at the top of the building, in a pool that is cracked, leaking, and precarious even without an earthquake, are 1565 fuel rods (give or take a few), some of them “fresh fuel” that was ready to go into the reactor on the morning of March 11th when the earthquake and tsunami hit.

If they are MOX fuel, containing 6% plutonium, one fuel rod has the potential to kill 2.89 billion people. If this pool collapses, as Senator Wyden is now saying too, we would face a mass extinction event from the release of radiation in those rods.

One fuel rod can kill almost 3 billion people? Something sounds fishy.

Plutonium is extremely toxic when it is inhaled.

There are various figures out there about how much it take to give a person cancer. I don't know the exact amounts off the top of my head, but I am pretty sure the amount is in micrograms. Nice link about this sort of thing here (click me).

If a rod of nuclear fuel is intact, then a lot people aren't going to be inhaling it....any problem is the radiation to nearby living things. If the fuel rod is vaporized, then it becomes a much bigger problem.

Fuel rods come in a variety of volumes and mass and without knowing much more, it would be difficult to quantify a worst case scenario, which is what the whole Reactor 4 thing is about. Perhaps people have info about the fuel rods, seems plausible to me. If they have the mass and assume it is all vaporized and you have a valid dose/effect number, you can come up with a theoretical maximum.

The problem then becomes, how to you get that many people to breathe the stuff in? Plutonium oxides are heavy and would fall out of suspension relatively quick.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand.....

some PU239 was aerosolized in the explosions, just floating in the air after that, i believe they even found some in Europe. other nucleotides like strontium and cesium in the atmosphere are more of a concern. the radioactivity of the debris is nothing i reckon, but i wouldn't let the kids climb on it either.

I am not aware of any plutonium found outside of Japan.

I am aware of radioactive iodine in the USA and elsewhere.

As far as I know, the levels of radioactive iodine is below human threat levels.

A quick google about this topic from a "reputable" news source says this (click me).

I am sure people have their own idea on what is a reputable source or not.
