Events like these don't appeal to me at all. I did a mud run way back when it wasn't all about getting drunk and even then it was marginally fun... But nowadays they seem like they have morphed.
I prefer longer distance trail run races. Think they breed less of a party mentality and somewhat more challenging as a general whole. (But what do I know? I've never done the Tough Mudder so I can't speak to how challenging it is. I'm just assuming people in relatively decent shape can bang it out with little training.)
Let me make it clear though... I'd do it for the hot shirtless guys.
I did an obstacle course this weekend (similar to Tough Mudder but a "lite version". I walked it with some friends and when I we crossed the finish line - the RD asked me why I walked it (he's one of the guys on my tri team). I explained to him that I was doing it with friends so we decided to take off and do the course full speed together with the last wave. Both of us finished around the 22 minute mark - the time that won the race was ~25.
I told him it was the last time I do one of these things. They just don't appeal to me at all and I went through all that poop in college anyway.
