I go veg/vegan four to five days out of the week.

Replace the meat you would be eating with extra veggies, a bean or an egg or two.

I feel really great until the fourth or fifth day when my stomach becomes a never ending pit, then I know it's time to eat some steak or bacon.

I highly recommend it. The less meat you eat the nicer the meat you can afford.

As much as I love animals, meat is a required part of the human diet.

I therefore, has bobblehead has pointed out, am a hypocrite because I pick and choose what animals to eat based on their diet and intelligence

That's pretty much what I've been trying to do. Eat really healthy for sustenance the majority of the time (80%) but then go for it and really enjoy myself with indulgence the other 20% of the time. I usually eat in the commissary at work and the food plain sucks. It's just industrialized food that all comes from the same factory and it's not worthy of doing damage to myself. So I've started either bringing a salad or getting a salad there. I'd rather put the hurting on myself with quality indulgent food.

Isn't it ironic that someone should ask this question on a surfing forum?

Humans evolved from furry mammals. So you should not be asking why some of our bodies have
a little hair. Instead, your questions should be: Why are most of our bodies naked?

Why are men and women so different? No other mammals display such profound differences
between genders. Why does the hair on our heads keep growing? No other mammals have
continuous growing hair on any body parts. Why do men go bald, but not women?

Why do our nostrils open downward? No other mammals have downward opening nostrils. No
other land mammals have anything but gaping, forward opening nostrils. Why are babies so fat?
Why are women covered in a layer of under-skin fat? Why don't men have it? Why do women have
less body hair than men?

Why are human fossil records so sketchy?

Why do we require an extremely high dose of omega 3 oil compared to land mammals? How
were our ancestors able to fulfil this need? Why are the brains of modern people shrinking? Why
are people getting such high rates of metabolic and autoimmune disease?

Humans differ profoundly, incredibly, from our ape ancestors. We accomplished these changes in
record time. How were humans able to change so much faster than other mammals?

Vegan is fine but if you get injured or need to have
surgery without enough protein you're going to take a
lot longer to heal up.

Doc just told me this after surgery - "eat protein".

As long as you find ways to get enough protein being vegetarian/vegan is fine. That's a lot easier to do (and more delicious IMO) with meat in your diet.

To each his own.

There is no way I could be a vegetarian. My philosophy
though is if you're gonna eat meat, eat good meat.

None of the packaged sh!t from Safeway or chain
supermarkets. I go to a local meat market and get
the range fed, hormone free select stuff when I
cook.

Having previously been a vegeterian then vegan then omnivore and now moving back to veg/vegan I can honestly say veg is definitely good for you and the environment as a whole no doubt. I wont go into details nor argue with the meat eaters here (its pointless anyway ) eat what you want...but to psychos point, i eat very little soy product. there is so much good veg food to be had you don't have to touch the stuff if you don't want to and I typically don't...I grow a lot myself, shop and eat local as much as possible, preferrably organic (but even that is being altered by big corporate food, http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/08/busine...;pagewanted=all and http://grist.org/organic-food/the-latest-new-york-times-expose-wont-stop-me-from-eating-organic/ so go local if you can, know where your food, veg or meat eaters, is coming from)...trying to grow avocado trees as I can't live without them

Now the real benefit...vegetarian/vegan women (not the dirty psuedo hippie types either, and my women look nothing like the vegetarian pictured in the post somewhere above) taste way way better than meat eaters hands down! This I do know...I have a portfolio that would scare the majority of you

carry on!

If we were supposed to be vegetarians, we would have been born with a mouth full of molars. We have incisors and those are used for ripping meat. You want to be a vagaqueerian, go ahead. Just go to the dentist and have him/her yank those meat rippers for cud chewers.

A very good friend of mine divorced his wife over this.
She is what some would call a vega-nazi, way over the top.
They have 2 kids (a boy and girl) and she was pushing her lifestyle onto them whether they liked it or not, my friend was somewhat a vegetarian but ate fish, dairy and enjoyed an occasional steak or chicken, maybe once, twice a month.
His son the oldest wasn't into the vegi thing at all, liked hot dogs, bacon, beef, dairy etc. but his pops kept it to a minimum but didn't ban it.
His daughter bought into it.
His wife's stance is "if it has a face, you can't eat it" and eating eggs is stealing from chickens, the same with milk, cheese - "you're stealing from the cows", NO POTS or PANS could have EVER touched meat as well as cups and glasses could have ever had milk in them, some crazy arse $hit!
The thing is she wasn't a vegan when they married, she went to some meeting that a bunch of vega-nazis put together from their kids private school and she came home a changed person - just like that.
So, they split and the son stayed with dad and the daughter hung out with mom and they eventually divorced.

They sound nice.
