Kinda funny how all the Lebron haters that were bitching about the collusion of the Heat will be changing their tune real quick with this one. Lebron didn't get his coach fired and then ask to leave anyway. The hypocrisy will be awesome.

I'm as big a LeBron apologist as you will find, but well... he kind of did do that minus the ask part.

Howard went from someone that tried so hard to be liked by the fans as he worked overtime on his fun loving, aw shucks, good time Dwight persona. But in the last year and a half he's burnt all that up and become the most vilified prima dona in the league. Well, at least he took the Heat off of LBJ! Will he ever fully realize his potential and make people forget this? I don't think so. He may win a ring in LA but IMO he does not have the fire to become what he could have become with his gifts. F him & F the Lakers. And a pox on Kobe's beat up knees!

That's rich! He tried to play the clown like Shaq. Fail. Woo the scribes like Shaq. Fail. Slip out of Orlando with out too much scrutiny. Fail. We will see, at the end of his career, if he can even carry Shaq's jock.

Hey, a lot of NBA stars "live" in FL/Orlando. Shaq is one of them. No state income tax comes in handy with big paychecks.
Maybe Howard will actually live in CA and help pay down that boondoggle of debt

Good point re: taxes. I am pretty sure too that David Stern prefers them to have Florida as a home base instead of Nevada.

Still a lotta work to be done, esp on the defensive perimeter. Howard will spend his Laker career in foul trouble unless we can fill those holes.

I think they still have to pay taxes in the other states they play in.

They do, but half your games tax free is better than only a few a season as a visitor.

Really?
Wouldn't they be paid where the team offices are? I used to travel for work and I always paid CA state tax because that's where my office was

Yeah but living out of state could potentially mean being taxed twice. My mother always lived in Ct. But worked in Brooklyn. She would pay income taxes to NY and Ct where she never worked a day in her life. Living or working in Fla. would negate that.

From the LA Times:
"20 of the 24 states with franchises in at least one of the four major pro leagues -- the NFL, NBA, NHL and Major League Baseball -- have laws that require visiting athletes to pay state income tax for each game they play there."

Lakers fans are the worst fans of all. Always Used to winning, and Whine like babies if they lose. Then they're on every sports talk show opining trade scenarios to stop the blood letting. Good fans root thru thick and thin...like Boston fans.

So being used to winning and demanding excellence are bad traits?
Gotcha.
I'm sure Antoine Walker had a few Boston fans screaming for a trade. And people think Kobe takes too many shots...

How about from the time Wilt left in about 1973 until Magic arrived to win the 1980 championship? They were horrible. I was just a boy, but followed them Lakers during all that time. So I, personally, deserve to like all the success they've had in the ensuing three decades. And they always seem to come up with the blockbuster trade when they need it most, eh? (see--Kareem; the trades for the draft picks that got Magic and Worthy and Kobe; Shaq; Gasol; Nash; and now Howard).
If this current team stays healthy (a big if), they'll have a starting lineup of Kobe, Nash, Howard, Gasol, and World Peace. Holy sh!t.
