They are good because they are being produced by corporations. Any kid that age with a reasonable amount of talent could be groomed to be that good.
Try not to let the hype overwhelm you. It's all hype.
They will, of course, grow up to be the best, but if the companies wanted to, and they will, groom any other kid that age to be the next golden boy or girl, they could do it.
By the way, Surfline says Carissa Moore surfs better than you. While I agree that she rips, for her age, Every single surfspot in the USA, Australia, or Hawaii has a male surfer that could beat the best female pro. That's a fact. I have seen the women compete, and most guys at your spot are much better than they are. You can't trust still frame shots. You have to watch video.

Yeah, that video proves she rips, indeed. No doubt about it. But that is Lowers, and EVERYBODY rips at lowers, even if they aren't rippers. If you haven't surfed Lowers, then you don't know that it's magical. If you surf it, you'll surf twice as good as you normally do. It's the most rippable wave in the world (Andy Irons). Think about that. It's too bad they didn't show everyone else surfing that day.
But, yes, she RIPS!

She wasn't groomed into having that much talent. Yes Lowers makes everyone surf beyond their usual abilities, but that wasn't even a good day at Lowers. I haven't seen pro women pull off a couple of the things she threw in there totally nonchalantly
An eleven year old girl doing powerful (well, as powerful as an 80 pound girl can be  ) carves, doing lipslides, 360's at will, and little airs is funking impressive as hell! No amount of corporate grooming can turn an average kid into that good of a surfer.
As long as she learns to surf bigger waves well, and isn't afraid in big surf, and as long as she doesn't blow it with drugs or a bad boyfriend, I think she will be world champ one day.
Why are you so threatened by an 11 year old girl ripping that you have to say things like "ohhh... it's Lowers so it doesn't count," or "the best guy at other surf spots is better"?  KingNeptune

she is from hawaii and I seen her surfing at kaisers 2 years ago as a even a smaller grom. needless to say she impressed everyone and even got some tv coverage on some hawaii news station.

Lowers shmowers, she took off on a left at haleiwa right on the toilet bowl(but going left) and did 3 big ole blasts off the top. Witnesses said it looked like a small pipe wave. Almost cost layne beachley her 6th world title that day, along with ruining the days of another half dozen competitors who were at least twice her age!
She lives up to the hype for sure!

Ever notice how more and more of the women you see really ripping these days don't seem to be surfing like girls?
I surfed one day at Lennox and this chick, she was a chick cause she was fully hot, was out there doing full on top to bottom man turns on solid head high waves. Up to that day I'd never seen a girl surf like that before.
Some days I wish I could do more man turns, especially when the chicks out there are making me look like a bitch.

Holy bloody hell she really doee rip. Most video you see of kids under 13 boy or girl it looks like there moving in slow motion and there turns are just extended pumps. But she is ripping! I recently saw some fotage of jon jon and those guys in hawaii surfing and she is on par mapybe even better then they are. How many kids are surfing this good? Hey if you watch 3 degeres watch the segment were mick fannig is 14 years old. She is surfing better then he is. amazing./

I want to Apologize.
First, to Carissa, though I doubt she wastes her time (and life) like we do, posting a load of BS each day on the internet). I want to apologize. I was wrong. She rips, there is no doubt about that.
And, she rips over me. I'll admit it. It's true. That's that.
But, I was not articulate enough, if that makes sense.
I was really taking issue with Surfline.com, because it has that video you all just watched, and they announce it by saying "Carissa Moore Surfs Better than You."
I think that's arrogant, more so than myself.
Surfline/Surfermag/Surfing are all connected, and I remember, back in 96 when Surfer ran a cover that said "Lisa Anderson Surfs Better Than You."
They assume that if one of us were as good as a female pro, everyone would know it by now.
But, I think that's the point. They are trying to raise an eyebrow, and perhaps tick off a few people.
I fell for it.
