Welcome to the springtime experience. There’s been a bit of a ground swell in the water over the last few days, probably the last remnants of winter’s clutch on the coast. Monday I wasn’t really expecting to surf at all since the winds were howling from the northwest and whitecaps could be seen far out to the horizon.
However, Monday turned into an awesome day. Drove down the coast a ways to check out a sheltered reef and happened, just out of curiosity, to stop by my favorite winter wave. To my surprise, the rights were overhead and looking super fun on the higher tide. Best part was there was nobody out. So you know how stoked I was! Eventually others came out, but there were enough waves for everyone.
Similar situation today, except the wind was a little gustier and the swell had bumped up a notch. The waves at my spot were a little better and a crew of locs were on it. Everyone managed to get their fair share of rides though, so there wasn’t really any tension in the water, and that’s always nice.
Normally I hate spring, with its bitter cold wind and poor quality waves, but if this is any indication of what the season has in store, then I’ll be a happy camper for sure!
