slurp. So why a 6' stubby? What will it offer you over the 7'2" ? I'm curious as I have a shot at getting Wayne to make me one, but now I've seen too many verions posted!
I'm trying to get my head round the choices behind the different variants of this quiver killer! Does the 7'2" kill more than the 6' or does the 6' offer something you're not getting with the 7'2" ????
I thought it was a simple choice when ordering up a DG....
But really effing beautiful work.
None of the DGs that come out of the Oak Foils factory are identical. Oak Foils is a true custom shop. Each board is made specifically for each individual rider. All of the rocker templates are custom made for each person. That is why his boards are unique and really work.
The DG surfs like a board that is much shorter, but paddles like a board that is much bigger. My 7'2" is my quiver killer. For you or somebody else, it may be bigger or shorter, depending on your size/weight/surfing abilities/the breaks you surf/etc...
When you're ready to order one, Wayne will give you his recommendations.
The reason I ordered this 6'0" stubby is to take out during the summer when I don't want to over dominate the lineup with my 7'2". Since these boards surf shorter, the 6'0 is very skatey, like a waveskate. When wegosurf ordered the first stubby in 6'2", I had the opportunity to try his out. At 6'2", it rode like my 5'4" waveskate. I'm anxious to try out the 6'0". It is probably going to surf like a 5' board. I may have to fin it bigger so it stiffens it up a little, but the bigger fins will also provide more drive. When people see the board in the lineup, it'll just look like a small shortboard. What they won't see is the volume this little stubby packs. This board will paddle into waves like a much bigger board, very easily and early. Would you rather be on a standard shortboard or fish and catch a few waves or be on the stubby and catch tons of waves? When it gets crowded during the summer, it can get pretty frustrating when everybody is paddling for the same waves. This one will have that extra advantage.
If you're looking for a daily driver, I would recommend something like my 7'2", which is great for all conditions (knee high to whatever you're comfortable paddling into). Tons of drive, really light, surfs short. Don't be afraid of the volume of this board. I was shocked when I first got mine. After my first session, it became my all-time favorite board for all conditions. This board paddles really well when we get strong currents. The only bad thing is that this board is a mutha trying to duck dive when it gets HH+, but it has its rewards. It paddles into the waves easily and early and it's stable as hell so steep drops are not as intense.
When you're ready to order, Wayne will give you his recommendations. Go with what he recommends. You will be glad you did.
