After showing signs of weakening the last couple weeks, we have a new Active Phase of westerly blowing wind north and NE of New Guinea for more than a couple days. It seems to be developing a new Kelvin Wave that may make it intact to the eastern tropical Pacific. 30 day average SOI index has been dropping some again, but still well into the positive reading (not great). If this latest Active Phase activity (which looks a little stronger than some of previous weaker ones) can sustain itself, we may have hope for at least a weak El Nino, yet. Previous weeks had the chances of even a weak El Nino looking more and more remote with each passing day, but this latest Active Phase could be it's last gasp to stay alive. We'll see.
