Waves don't put you in danger, you put you in danger. By going in the ocean. I've seen guys break their neck in chesthigh beachbreaks. The ocean is dangerous. Stay away from it at all costs!
I've heard danger can be mitigated by drinking coffee while standing up. Best to do that all day instead.
