This thread is hilarious. Hey guys, I went boogie boarding and loved it. I want to start surfing but don't know much about surfboards. I'm training to surf and I want to surf big Wedge this summer and shooting for Maverick's and Pipe next winter. What kind of board should I get?
Dude, do a sprint first and put the transitions together before you even think about anything else. One word for you BRICK! Do your brick workouts religiously and you will be ahead of the pack. This means ride 10-15 miles and immediately go for a 3-5 mile run. No breaks in between the bike and run and no stretching. This will give you a slight idea of what you're getting yourself into. If you run a 7 minute mile, coming off the bike you'll easily go to 8-9 minute mile depending on the distance you ride. Keep working on it and you'll get better. But the notion that you will race in Kona within a year or even two....foolish, you'll perish on the Queen K Hwy, if you make the swim cutoff. Hell, you won't even get to race unless you win a lottery slot or qualify. Good luck!
Again, I have 0 intentions or plans to do the Kona. I have absolutely no idea where you would get that idea from my posts.
I plan to do sprints as part of training to work up to a half ironman style race. I'd like to do a full ironman by the end of summer next year (give or take). If that makes me the kook who thinks he's going to surf Mavericks after buying a softtop - then so be it.
