AJ - re: paddleboarding and its similarities, you won't hear any argument from me. But paddleboarding keeps oneprepared and ready to paddle, something essential to surfing - a fun diversion. Swim-bike-run keeps you in shape for... being in shape to swim-bike-run. Which is exactly why its funny - there is no endgame. And rice nailed it - you won't find a more nerded out group of gear junkies and back-patting self congratulaters than 'triathletes' (and I use that word with the thickest of sarcasm).
