They are there in case of internal pressure buildup ( forgetting to open the vent). The frames have substantial glue contact area with deck and bottom but only about 1/10th as much with each other, so the frame junctions are the weakest link as far as internal pressure goes. The struts make them about 10 times as strong ( very approximately). I should probably do all the joins as the struts weigh next to nothing but a double row seems to do the job.
