i went out to the channel islands to catch a swell. it was probably 6-8ft faces. i hadn't surfed in probably 3-6 months prior to that day (only swam regularly for training). took a 5+ wave set on the head and came up coughing blood. beat down handed. paddled to the boat and took a breather, then came back out.
