Waldo: This is true. But right away what I noticed from that pic was commercialism. The Billabong t-shirt is an advertisement. Nice breasts though.

Again, surf culture has finally truly drowned to the corporate representation thing. Labels are everywhere in Blue Crush.

Check out North Shore for labels. You'll find none. No pimping going on there. Ironically, the only label you'll see is part of the story - Rick Kane designs Chandler's new logo, who was running his business and life on his own terms and making it.

Now, what happened between 1987 and 2003? Where did surfing get turned into a moving billboard?

Labels like Billabong stretched across a nice set of 34 C cups is not a stupid way of getting your message across. But you have to wonder about its place in a modern day surf movie. Is life just imitating art - showing realism in this case - because there are surf t-shirts everywhere? Or is it advertising? Or is it both in a vicious catch-22?

Ad placement in surf movies, or in movies in general, is an earmark of decline in entertainment quality. There is a definite shift in focus from telling a story to selling goods and telling a story. Big difference. Good story telling needs strong focus. Good marketing only requires a little brainwashing and a slight of hand.

I almost forgot to mention... there was also In God's Hands. Don't need to say much there.
